Street Style: The Canadian Tuxedo

Street Style: The Canadian Tuxedo, Atlanta Fashion stylist, Top Atlanta blogger

Can I be honest with you? I had no idea that wearing all denim was also known as the Canadian Tuxedo.

After I posted a denim on denim look on Instagram, someone commented that they’d loved my take on the Canadian Tuxedo. I was somewhat confused. So I Googled it… a "Canadian tuxedo" is a colloquial term for wearing a jean shirt or denim jacket with jeans. This all came about, supposedly, when Bing Crosby, the famous American singer, was denied entry into a hotel in Vancouver, Canada because he was wearing denim on denim. It’s said that he was wearing Levi’s denim.  The hotel thought he was too casually dressed for entry because denim was not something a high-class person would wear.  Once they realized who he was he was allowed into the hotel.  Levi’s some how heard about this incident and decided to fix this high-class issue by creating a tuxedo jacket for Bing made entirely of denim. Levi’s called the look, the Canadian Tuxedo.  And somehow from all that, wearing denim on denim became known as a Canadian Tuxedo. How about that tidbit of fashion history?

Anyway, pairing two denim pieces together is my go-to when I don’t feel like putting to much effort into what I’m wearing. Btw, check out this all denim look and this denim on denim look. Do you ever wear a Canadian Tuxedo?
