Mixing It Up With Textures & Prints

Mixing It Up With Textures & Prints, Top Atlanta Blogger, Atlanta Fashion Stylist, Black style blogger

I’ve never really had a color of the year, but if I did it would be purple along with all the shades in this color family. I am so here for almost anything purplely.

However, as much as I’m digging purples right now, mixing prints is still my #1 jam. Mixing and matching prints is such a dope way to give your outfit that unexpected fashion moment. Not to mention it has the added bonus of extending the life of your wardrobe due to the versatility it brings. Btw… here are a few of my fave print mixed outfits >>> Polka Dots & Animal Print / Checkered & Stripes / Tartan & Animal Print

For those of you who struggle with mixing prints, you might find mixing textures slightly easier to achieve. Using textured fabrics to create a look can give you the same fashion vibe as using fabrics with prints and patterns. The texture of the fabrics can definitely add pizazz to an outfit, and when you mix two different textures you will easily add edge and interest to your outfit.

When I was prepping for my photoshoot, I knew I wanted to wear this light purple blazer from H&M with these Puma sneakers. Instead of the usual tshirt and jeans look, I decided to go the dressy route. I pulled out this mesh skirt with polka dot overlay and paired it with this top I thrifted a while ago. Although both the top and skirt have different textures, they share the same color which made putting this look together easier than trying to mix two different colored prints/patterns.

If you’re new to combining textures, below are a few combinations to try out. With a little practice you’re sure to create some bang’n ensembles.

  • Velvet + Silk

  • Sequin + Fur

  • Knit + Patent Leather

  • Metallic + Cotton

Have you tried mixing textures and prints — either textures with textures, or prints with prints?
