5 Tips To Finding Your Personal Style

Defining your personal style can be tricky to narrow down.  Especially if you have a vast appreciation of a few different styles.  During my Personal Style Workshop, one of the topics discussed was how to  identify your personal style.  Knowing and understanding your style personality makes all the difference when it comes down to shopping and getting dressed.  Let’s get into 5 tips you can use to help find your personal style.

  1. Scan your wardrobe // Look for items that you constantly buy and wear the most.  This will give you some indication of what style your prefer.  If you have a closet full of polka dots and floral prints or kitten heels and ankle boots, there’s a good chance those pieces really speak to you.  And that’s perfectly okay!  Continue wearing what makes you feel most comfortable however, consider replicating your faves in different colors and textures.

  2. Get inspired // Most of us have a favorite celebrity, fashion influencer, family member of friend who’s style we just can’t get enough of.  If you haven’t already, create a Pinterest board (or something similar) of all the styles you’re drawn to.  Write down what they all have in common.  With what you wrote down, use it to help you find your style and for style inspiration.

  3. Step out of your comfort zone // Switch things up a little.  Try experimenting with different patterns, textures, accessories, and shoes.  If there’s a certain style you’ve been eyeing but haven’t had guts to try… try it!  Incorporating aspirational items  into your wardrobe will push your personal style and keep your look fresh and updated.

  4. Choose a signature item // All fashionable people had/have a signature piece or two that is part of their style identity.  Janelle Monae (besides her singing) is known for wearing THE DOPEST black and white outfits combo’s.  Iris Apfel has her giant baubles and statement glasses. I have my funky eyewear collection as my signature item.  Yours can be as simple as a piece of jewelry or as memorable as a multi-colored blazer.  Find “that piece” that always makes you feel like you, make it your trademark item and rock the heck out of it.

  5. Hire a fashion stylist // If you find yourself struggling with “what to wear” moments, need help updating your current wardrobe or shopping is not your thing, then I can absolutely help you.  Click here to hire me.
