Why A Capsule Wardrobe Doesn't Work For Me
Let me start by saying that there is nothing wrong with having a capsule wardrobe. If it works for you then do you. However, with my love for clothes, fashion and shopping having a capsule wardrobe doesn’t work for me.
First, what is a capsule wardrobe? It is a collection of a few essential items of clothing (usually between 15-30 pieces) that do not go out of fashion, such as skirts, trousers, and coats, which can then be augmented with seasonal pieces.
The main reason a capsule wardrobe isn’t my thing is because I love clothes and personal style! The whole act of standing in my closet, pairing pieces together, conceptualizing my vision and then bringing that vision to fruition brings me so much pleasure. I absolutely love getting dressed and putting outfits together. Having a larger wardrobe allows me to be creative.
Another reason a capsule collection isn’t for me is that I’m not a one style kinda girl. I like to express myself through various styles. Forcing myself to stick with a few basics is an injustice to my creativity, plus I love playing around with my style. This is not saying that you can’t be creative if you are doing a capsule wardrobe, it’s just saying that for me the idea doesn’t work.
Lastly, I don’t need a capsule wardrobe to keep my wardrobe under control nor do I see the need to place rules and restrictions on what I wear.
