Proof That You Can Wear Black In The Summer

black+summer+street+style2.jpg

Of all the colors to wear in summer, black is probably your last go-to color.  But did you know that black helps to keep you cool?  Black absorbs the suns heat rays that try to come and make you sweaty and gross.  Christian Dior said it best: “You can wear black at any time. You can wear it at any age. You may wear it for almost any occasion.”  Today I'm showing you how I'm rocking this all black look.

Knowing how to wear black in the warmer months can be tricky for some people.  Especially if most of your black pieces are fall/winter pieces.  In an effort not to give off goth vibes, you'll need to stick with light weight fabrics - such as chiffon, light linen or seersucker.  The goal is to make sure your material is breathable.  Walking around feeling like you're in a sauna is not the business.

If you follow trends, then you should have noticed that sheer or chiffon is in.  And because the thrift gawds were on my side, I came up on this sheer floral embroidered top which (in the past) I would have never even considered.  What I like most about this top is that it allows me to be completely covered, while still showing a little bit of skin.

This top can be styled a few ways, but for this looked I opted for this knee length black skirt (also thrifted).  The volume and the length of this skirt really works for the hot weather, allowing for plenty of ventilation for my short legs and mini-thick thighs.  Another big plus for this skirt is that it comes with pockets, which we all now that pockets just make everything in life better.

The first time I wore this look was to a spring wedding (see pic of me and hubs below).  My original look didn’t pan out, so I took Christian Dior’s advice and wore all black.  The only difference with the wedding look and this look are my MACEE LACE UP SNEAKER from SHOEDAZZLE and this colorblocked box shape clutch (picked up a few months ago at Forever 21).  Honestly, if I'd had these sneakers before the wedding I probably worn have worn them then.  *STYLE TIP: Adding sneakers to this outfit (or any dressy look) just gives your outfit a sporty vibe and makes you the coolest person in the room.

As always, I hope that this look will inspire you to dress outside the box or making you think of other ways to dress up your formal wear.  Drop a line in the comments, I’m curious to know your thoughts on wearing black or dark colors in the summer.
