Is It Cool To Wear Sandals In the Winter?

Sequin duster, clear sandals, atlanta personal stylist

One trend I just can’t seem to get into is wearing sandals in the wintertime.  Seeing this fashion statement in style magazines, on tv and down my social timelines let’s me know that there are plenty of women out here braving flu season by wearing their toes out. If I could get passed the thought of my toes freezing off due to the lower temps then maybe. I remember back in my “we be clubbin’ days inwardly laughing at some of the females standing in line wearing their tiny freakum dresses and heeled sandals - shivering. But you know what, I shouldn’t knock it until I try it, right?  And maybe one day I will.

A stylish remedy for continuing to wear your summer sandals in the cooler months is super easy.  Just add a fun pair of socks (or tights). Think about how cute your NYE party outfit would look if you paired it with a cutesy pair of short or knee-length socks. Not only do you get to keep your feet warm, your outfit can still be dope. For your styling pleasure, check out a few looks where I’ve incorporated socks into my look >>> HERE, HERE, HERE & HERE.

The older I get the more my style evolves.  I was once the girl who would never be caught wearing anything pink or shiny and definitely not strutting around in a pair of heels.  Now here I am in a shiny sequin duster with a cute pair of pink and green heels on.  I wonder what my younger self would say to my slightly older self after seeing me in today’s look.

Btw, I shot this look when the temp’s were warmer. What are you thoughts on sandals in the winter months?

DIY: How To Decorate A Pair Of Jeans

Atlanta Style blogger, Top Black blogger, Top Fashion blogger

Don't you hate when your buy a pair of jeans and it's only when you get home and try them on that you realize they are too long?  I mean who has time to go into the fitting room just to make sure that something fits?  Or am I the only one to lazy to try on clothes before buying them?

I've been needing a non-distressed pair of black jeans for a while now.  I got scissor happy and ended up slicing and dicing my other three pair of black jeans.  Whenever I'm out thrifting I usually can't find a pair of black jeans that I like.  Which is when I head over to Forever 21.  I actually like how their jeans fit my slim-thick hips and thighs and their price point is right where I want it to be.

So imagine my surprise while out thrifting, I come up on a pair of crispy black F21 jeans, in my size.  Winning!  Or so I thought.  I should have definitely tried them on at the store.  If I had, then I'd known that they were too long.  Argh!  My first thought was to distress them.  My second thought was to take them back.  I had to resort back to my first thought because I missed the 7 day return time.  Ugh!!  Now what?!?!

Distress it is.  Just as I was prepping the pants to cut them, I had this idea... Remembering I had a container filled with all sorts of unique and odd jewelry accessories from varies thrift shops in my closet; I got all happy inside.  Btw, you'd be surprised at all the cool vintage accessory items people give away.

I picked all the pieces I wanted and placed them on the pants leg before super gluing them down.  Just to make sure the placement was okay.  Once I was okay with the placement of each piece, I got the glue gun and went to town.

When it came time to style these pants I was leaning towards a blazer, but felt that was so expected.  That's when I decided on the dress over pants trend (again, see here).  To keep the look simple, this textured tangerine orange dress from H&M was perfect.  Instead of heels I opted for the wedged oxfords from Shein.  I really like how this look came together.  And just because I can be extra at times, I carried this cigar box handbag which added a little pzazz.

Items I used to embellish my jeans
- Jeans (old/new)
- Glue gun/ glue sticks
- Old or broken jewelry/ accessory pieces (earrings, broken necklace, brooches, pins)
- And my imagination

That One Time I Almost Fought An Old Lady

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Atlanta style blogger, Vintage top, fringe jeans

Look who finally decided to get here... Friday!  And I'm glad about it.  I think the end of the week likes to play games with my emotions.  But it's here and I'm ready to start my weekend shenanigans.

Starting with later on this evening.  I'll be hanging out with some new blogger gal pals I met a few weeks ago at an event.  Oddly enough, I'm slightly excited.  If not for blogging, I think I'd still be that little semi-awkward person who noticed and admired other people's gifts and talents instead of noticing  and admiring my own gifts and talents.

Before I get too sappy, let's talk about this awesomely fab vintage top I scored two years ago from a thrift store outlet.  For only (drum rolllllllllll) $1.75?!?!?!  This top is why I will forever thrift.  I remember the day we met (cue harp sound effect and blurry fade to scene two years ago).  I was walking around minding my own business when my friend called my name and was like, Little Bit (because I'm short) look what I found for you.  My eyes immediately lit up like Christmas lights.  I heard the thrift angels singing a dope melody and for just a moment the world stopped.  It was instant love at first sight.

As soon as she brought it to me, throngs of people gather about me longing to touch, to feel, to embrace this colorful gem.  I gulped up all of the admiration for this find.  Yet there was this one person who was getting a little to close.  An older lady who kept trying to grab the top out of my hands.  She kept saying how beautiful the top was and how she remembers pieces like this top from back in her day.  Then she asks....

Can I try it on?  I immediately gave her the side eye.  All while she's trying to take the top out of my hands.  At this point, I'm like ma'am!  As she continues to get me to let go of the top.  After a few moments, I decided to let her try it on, but you can best believe, I was prepared to fight her over this top if she tried anything funny.  Needless to say I got the top.  I paired the top with an old pair of Forever21 jeans that I fringed at the bottom at one back pocket and red fringed heels, also old from JustFab.

I hope you enjoyed my little story as much as you do this outfit.  Have a stylishly fun weekend!!!

Spring Dress + Black Denim Pants

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Atlanta Blogger, Atlanta Stylist, Dress and Pants, Black blogger

Now that Thanksgiving is behind us, the craziness of Christmas shopping has descended on us.  After my two bad experiences with Black Friday Shopping, online shopping is the way to go...

So guys I almost didn't post today's outfit because I really don't like how this outfit worked out for me.  But I thought what the heck, it's not that bad!  I've seen the dress with pants trends on other fashionista's and I thought I would give it a try.  Well it didn't work out quite how I anticipated.  Either the dress is to long or I'm to short or maybe both.  Anywho I tried it and now I know this trend isn't for me.  What fashion faux pas's have you experienced?

Polka Dot Button-down + Red Bowtie

Melodie Stewart-The Style Klazit-Polkadots-Funky Flair Boutique-Atlanta Style Blogger-Atlanta Stylist

Some people are like wait - what; it's November already?? And all over social media you see saying such as finish the year out strong, make the rest of 2016 your %*&@#, but I'm over here like, I'm just getting the hang of things.  One thing I can say is that I've learned sooo much about myself and my resilience to be the best at being ME!!!

Okay! When I was trying to put this look together, I wanted to wear my floral print necktie.... BUT! I couldn't find the flipp'n thing so I had to go with this red bowtie from Funky Flair Boutique instead.  If you've been hang'n with me for a while you already know that the black/white combo is one of my things.  But I like to play with my b/w combo.  One thing I love about thrifting is coming up on brand items for a fraction of the cost.  Both the H&M vest and the polka dot shirt are thrifted; but you can find a similar vest here.  The button-down here, here or here.  Black jeans are common and should be a staple in your closet.  My $8 jeans from F21 have held up really well.  To complete my look, I decided on these Makemechic animal print flats.  Since I still work a 9-5, I really like sprucing up my office attire.  I dare you to give this look a try!!!
