Flashback Friday: Letter To My 10 Year Old Self

Welcome to Friday my stylish friends.  Friday signifies the beginning of the weekend.  A time to unwind if only for a couple of days, unless you have a busy weekend planned like I do.

We all have those pivotal moments in our lives when we think back and wonder if we could change one thing.  What difference could it or would it make in shaping our future.  Shaping how we view ourselves or how we react to how people view us.

A moment for me was back in elementary school.  I was about 10 or 11 and it was career day or something similar to it.  Several company's or organizations were setup in the gym with info about what they offered.  I remember walking up to the booth for anyone interested in Theater.  I was really excited because I actually wanted to be an actress and model.  Here comes the moment that changed my life...

I approach the women at the table....

Lady: Hello there!
Me: Hi!
Lady:  What do you want to do when you grow up?
Me:  I want to be an actress and model!
Lady:  Oh hunny, why don't you think about doing something else....
Me:  ??????
Lady:  Goes on to explain why I should do something else.
Me:  Walks away with head hung low.

Isn't it amazing the things we remember that have a huge impact on our lives?  Although I don't remember verbatim our exchange, I remember I was told what I couldn't do.  We all know the past is just that, but if I could talk to my younger self, this is what I'd say...

"A girl!  Screw what that lady just said.  Who is she to tell you what you can and can't be.  Hold your head up!  If you want to be an actress, then be an actress.  If you want to model, then be a model.  Use those negative words as a stepping stool to get to the next level.  You are stronger than you realize.  Put yourself out there, even when you're scared put yourself out there.  Don't let what others think you should do or who you should be determine your happiness.  Always pray! Always! Always pray!  Decide what you want to do.  Write the vision and make it so clear your fears become irrelevant.  Make a plan and work on it everyday until you see results.  When you fall, get back up!  You totally got this girl."

Also a few years from now, you'll write down your version of the perfect husband.  You're actually going to get him!!!  It's okay to let your guard down, because he's going to treat you like a queen.  You'll have no choice but to fall in love with him.  And that's completely okay.  You guys are going to make a great team."
