For starters thrifting is magical and I owe it to my cousin who introduced me to the world of resale shopping many years ago. It wasn't until I got older that I really started to appreciate all that thrifting had to offer. I'm pretty sure that even after I became a millionaire, I'm still going to find my way to a thrift shop.
A few months ago (while co-hosting a thrift shopping event with Keren of Thrifting Atlanta) I'm walking around perusing the rows of varies vendors, telling myself - girl you better not go over your $50 budget. For the most part my shopping budget is between $50 - $100 dollars. Now if I see something that I "have to have" and I've reached my limit, I'll ask the Mr. for a "small" contribution.
Let me get back on track here.... so I walk past this one particular clothes vendor (Mobile Style Stop Boutique) and notice this colorful shiny garment hanging on the rack. I approach the garment, but paused as it was in the XL section. Bomber! Guys, can you believe I actually walked away from it?!?! I didn't even bother trying it on (which btw, you should always do a try-on session).
Somehow I ended up back at the rack and for the heck of it, tried it on.................. It fit!!! OMG it fit!!!! I couldn't believe my luck. Mind you I'd seen this same duster last year selling for a lot more that what I'd paid for mine. After doing the most by sashaying around the event, I quickly paid for my favorite piece. This duster cost me half my budget, yet it was totally worth it. Afterwards I went back to telling myself - girl you better not go over your new budget of $25, lol.
What makes this piece so amazing is that it has pockets. I know! I know! Pockets just make everything else in the world bearable. Most people would have probably worn something black, but instead of going dark, I decided on an all white approach. Pairing my fave pair of JustFab white distressed jeans (currently sold out, but these white jeans from H&M are super cute) with this Adidas top (worn HERE + similar option) was the perfect combo of both street and chic. S/o to my friend for reminding me that I had these criss-crossed gold mules from ShoeDazzle (sorry ya'll they are sold out in all 3 colors) adding the right amount of cute this look needed.
I hope this look inspires you to think a little outside the box. Even if you don't have a sequin duster, a colorful blazer or kimono would work equally as well. But if you do want one, I've found a few sequin duster's for you to consider.
