What To Wear To Work

melodiestewart.com, work wear street style, what to wear to work

Hope your weekend was full of funners and relaxation. For me, losing an hour this weekend has gotten me all out of sorts. I mean what’s the purpose of daylight savings time anyway? Either way guys, Happy Monday!

If I’m being honest, I haven’t “dressed up” for work in a long while. I’m just not motivated to put my best foot forward in the wardrobe department 5 days a week. Basically dressing up for work just isn’t fun any more. At this point being comfortable is my goal (meaning jeans, a decent top and a cute pair of shoes).

Now if for some reason I had a desire to slay my co-workers with a cute office chic look, today’s look would be something I’d wear. A blazer (a closet staple that EVERYONE should have in their wardrobe) is an instant outfit game changer, paired with a solid (or print, if you’re feeling frisky) top is simple and easy to wear. With spring around the corner the weather is slowly starting to warm up and this means you’ll see me wearing more skirts, like this thrifted skirt from Asos. What you won’t see more of is me in super high heels like these old turquoise heels I scored from ShoeDazzle many moons ago. Anywho, maybe one day I’ll get back to dressing up for work (or not)!

A Business Casual Look For The Modern Women

plaid blazer.jpg

Once upon a time I walked into a store and saw a cute skirt that I really liked. Knowing that I didn’t need it, I put it back on the rack and walked out the store. Clearly at some point afterwards I got weak.  As you can see I went back and bought the skirt. Judge me all you want, I cares not (insert slight eye roll)!

In Instagram life, I stay in a bang’n outfit, yet in real life not so much. As a matter of fact, here recently my work attire has consisted primarily of plain tops, a pair of jeans or casual pants.  However you will most likely find my footwork on point.  The only reason you might catch me “dressed up” for work is if I have a meeting with big wigs in attendance or for a presentation of some sort.

Speaking of presentation, last week my manager volunteered me to represent our department at some big process meeting.  Which meant I had to stunt on them with a awesomely cute business casual look.  While I didn’t wear this look, I could have.

Today’s work wear inspiration is simple, comfortable and stylish. I love the rich plum color of this midi skirt and it paired perfectly with this glen plaid blazer. For a bit of excitement, I opted for this mustard top (which is actually a dress - look here) for a pop of color.  Although business casual indicates an office appropriate attire you can still have a little fun with it.  A mix of tailored and/or traditional pieces with more fashion-forward items are the way to go.

Just because your office has a dress code, doesn’t mean you can’t get a little creative with your work outfit.  Depending on the amount of wiggle room within your company’s dress code policy you might be able to get away with subtle prints or colors like in today’s look.

A bomb blazer is always a good go-to option.  Don’t down play making a statement with your accessories (i.e. earrings, necklace, bracelet or ring).  If you’re not fond of the idea of wearing heels all day, a bold colored flat, a pair of mules with a dope print (and dare I say it - a kitten heel) works just as well.  Consider adding a bright color just for the heck of it.  Remember dressing for work doesn’t have to be boring!

An Office Friendly Outfit Inspo

Melodie Stewart, Atlanta Personal Stylist, Office Outfit Inspiration

With the three day weekend behind us, now it's back to standing in front of your closet trying to figure out what the heck should you to wear to work.

Dressing for the office can be a bit tricky and over whelming.  Between figuring out how to dress for the hellish temps outside and the below freezing temps in the office, all while making sure you're not called into HR is a feat in itself.  Today I'm sharing this simple yet cute dress and blazer look for work wear inspiration.

I'd first like to say that if you don't have a blazer in your closet, we can't be friends!  Blazers are awesome and they make me feel like a star... Of all the different types of clothing, blazers are my all time favorite garment.  Paring your look with a blazer can instantly take your look from meh to amazing.

Today I'm sharing how I styled this floral blazer and yellow dress for a super easy and professional office appropriate outfit. No matter if you're position is entry level or director this look works well in both a business casual or business professional setting.

Not only do I love the vibrant color of the dress, it has a sorta retro with a hint of sophistication vibe going on.  And the length is perfect for the office.  The dress alone is so cute, however, I wanted this look to make a statement.  So I paired it with this dark blue floral print blazer.

Keep in mind this look is just for inspiration so I challenge you to reach into your closet and look for any color dress and blazer option you have.  You can even flip it, meaning the dress can be the statement piece and the blazer a solid color.  Now if you want to get really creative, try mixing two different prints (just make sure they compliment each other).

Although I didn't add a lot of accessories with this look, a cute necklace or a belt cinched at the waist would have been okay.  The goal for this look was for the blazer to be the statement piece.  Who knows next time I'll go over board with the accessories.

Wearing Track Pants To Work

Wearing track pants to work, Atlanta Personal Stylist

I'm sure last night was tough for you knowing that Monday was on the horizon (or not), but what better way to start of the work week than by walking into the office dressed better than everybody.  If you're not already in your best dressed office wear today, there's still the rest of the week.  And just in case you need a little help, I got you covered - wink!

So today I'd like to offer up another style inspo for the work place.  While most office dress codes are set up to not let you be great, you can still look fab.  One thing I've noticed about my wardrobe of late is that I prefer a more relaxed, easy going type of look.  It's funny because in my teens, I dressed like a tomboy, then in my 20's to early 30's everything had to be fitted (or tight rather).  Now that I'm 40, comfort is most important.  As a matter of fact, it's numero uno, which is why the athleisure trend is a fave of mine.  It's a way to be comfy and cute.

I got these pants on sale from H&M.com (currently sold out) and was so glad I did.  I'm always a little hesitate when ordering pants online because ya girl is short (like 4'11" - 5' short) and it's such a hassle and a disappointment when they don't work out.  But these red track pants are amazing, and I can wear either flats or sneakers without them scrubbing the ground.

I styled them with this white and black striped blazer from Target (currently on sale, limited sizes tho) with a marigold t-shirt to tie in my heels.  To cool part about wearing athleisure is that it doesn't require a lot of effort.  Although I opted for heels, a pair of cute sneakers would have worked just as well.

A few things to keep in mind if you're going to sport this look on the job...

1. Be mindful of the material your pants are made of.  Make sure that you're wearing pants and not tights.  Seeing your underwear or lack there of through your "pants" at work or anywhere you go is not cute, hunty.

2. Accessorize your look.  Add a necklace or bracelets.  You're still going to work not the gym.

3. Add a casual piece, such as a button down shirt or a blazer (hint, hint) wearing a t-shirt will only dress down the look.  The goal is to have a mix of both casual and athletic.

4. Have fun with it.  If you can get away with wearing a bold color such as red, do it.

Want a few other office or athlesure outfit inspirations >>> I've got you... How about this lace skirt with sneakers look or this Adidas joggers outfit.  What about this look with the tangerine colored pants.

Back To Work - Floral Mixed Print

Back To Work - Floral Mixed Print

Sunday's should come with a pause button, but since they don't I'm coming to you with another work wear inspo look.  Btw, the best time for new beginnings is NOW!

I work in a semi corporate arena where the dress code is not super tight, yet there are still certain things I can't wear.  That's why I'm always looking for ways to jazz up my work attire.  Did you catch last week's work wear inspo?  Would you wear this cute grey sweater dress to work?

So for today's look I'm sharing this floral print mix get-up.  Can I just say I'm totally digging my own look.  It's so me, lol.  Now before you say to yourself that you'd never be able to pull this look off, you totally can.  For this look I was able to pair these two prints together because they share the same colors.  (READ 3 Incredible Easy Way To Mix Prints Like A Pro)

It's really easy to put on a pair of slacks with a plain blouse, but how fun would it be to go bolder?  A bold color or print does wonders for your look and your attitude.  Of course I can no longer find my pants online, however these printed pants from Forever 21 or these floral print pants from Asos will work awesomely.  Again when mixing prints, don't forget to balance the look with a print that has the same colors.

To complete this look, I added this thrifted fuchsia blazer for a pop of color and opted for these wine colored brogues.  Truth be told, a handbag this size isn't something I'd carry to work.  I'd downsize to this faux leather crossbody and if I could do this look over these cuties from Shein would probably be more suitable.

Work Wear: Grey Sweater Dress + Red OTK Boots

Work Wear - Grey Sweater Dress Red OTK Boots

The weather here in Atlanta lately has been on one.  Within these last 23 days of January, we've gone from freezing rain one day, snow the next and just over the weekend the temps reached the mid 60's.  Crazy right?  The day I shoot this look the temps were in the low 30's.  Kaylin (my photographer) and I almost froze to death.

Work Wear - Grey Sweater Dress Red OTK Boots

How many times have you purchased something and forgot you had it until you went looking for something else?  That's exactly what happened with this grey sweater dress.  I've had it for about 3 years and have only worn it twice because I keep forgetting that I have it.  The first time I wore this grey dress was here I didn't do it justice.  This time around I put a little more thought into how I wanted to style it.  I love the big front pockets on the dress, it adds character.  Although it's a turtleneck, I like that it's not to tight on my neck.  What I dig most about this sweater dress is the color.  While grey is one of the more popular colors in the cooler months, this light shade of grey is a much better option to brighten up this work wear look.

Of course the dress I'm wearing today is no longer available, but you know I stay looking out for you.  Below I've linked to a few options that would definitely work if you're wanting to recreate this look.  This grey sweater dress from H&M is a super cute alternative.  And Shein's version hit the nail on the head with this sweater dress.  Check out the SHOP THE POST link below for a few other options.

The color red has never grown on me until now.  All of a sudden, I'm crushing on red shoes.  And these boots, bbaaaabbbbyyyyy!  Are e-very-thang!  Did you catch the first time I debuted these candy apple red OTK boots?  Go here.  I am in love with these boots from Shoeland (and so is hubs - wink.)  I wanted to make a statement and these boots did just that.  The pop of color for sure took this look to the next level.  If you're not in the otk boot trend at the workplace, these red Asos booties are a great second choice.  And these too from F21.  I paired this look with my fave black moto from H&M ( sold out, but this one from Asos is a nice runner up and this Forever 21 grey handbag from a few season's ago.

I hope you like this look as much and I do and that it inspires you to step out of your comfort zone and be willing to try something a little different.  Drop a line in the comments and let me know what you think about this look.

OMG!!!! Capital America was the everything I knew it would be.  I watched it in 3D, but I'm sure I could have saved some coins watching it the old fashion way.  If you haven't see it, Go see it.  I really enjoyed my time off, celebrating my birthday and Mother's day.  So you can imagine coming back today is real hard.  I'm just counting down the days until I no longer have to clock in and out of "the mans" time clock.  What I took pleasure in the most about my time off was

Staying up as late as possible doing random randomness.  Such as aimlessly surfing the web, watching t.v, and catching up on old emails.  But for the most part, I didn't do much of anything.  Oh! before I forget, Happy (belated) Mother's Day to all you wonderful super shero mothers out there.  I hope you really enjoyed your day.

So today's look is really simple.  This look was inspired by my shoes.  I was looking for another pair of shoes when I came up on these and I was like, heyy I forgot about these.  Have you ever based your look on what shoes?  I do it all the time.  My shoes sometimes determine what I'll wear.  Often times you can take the colors in your shoes to help you pull a look together.  What's your inspiration when putting together a look?  Drop a line below and let me know, I might try your way.

Mini Trench + Olive Green Skirt

Atlanta blogger, style blogger, Atlanta Style Blogger, Olive skirt, mini trench, turtle neck, denim vest, statement necklace, burgundy boots, crossbody handbag, natural hair, black girl magic, black girl fashion, trendy work wear, Thrifting Atlanta

Hey guys!  Happy February; it's the month of loovvee.  I've been thinking about a Valentine outfit, but then I remembered I wasn't going out for V-day.  Therefore, I didn't need a look for this lovely day.

Now if I were going to be booed up at a restaurant with my main squeeze, I'd probably were maybe a blazer layered over an over-sized sweater with some distressed jeans and cute booties.  I might even throw on a hat if I can get my hair to cooperate.  What do you plan on wearing on the day of love?

In my last post (

here

) I talked about how faaabbbulousss my hair was.  But I think today's style is my most favorite natural hair style since day one.

Welp, it's the second day of the week of the second month of the year.  I must say things are looking up!  Why you may ask? Weellll, when I looked back over my life these last few years I noticed one thing

Growth!!!!!!  My hair for sure has grown.  Btw, I LOVE my natural hair.  I very excited to see it at its full potential.  Secondly, my blog.  When I first started out blogging, I had no idea what so ever what I was doing, but to look at where I started until now....  I'm very proud of myself.  I can't wait to see what the rest of this year holds for

The Style Kläzit

.

Now just because you still work a 9-5 or similar doesn't mean you can't be stylish or "trendy".  Maybe I'm fortunate that my job allows me a little wiggle room to #createmyownlook (wink).  Look at how I took a sweater and pair of slacks, which both are appropriate for work and executed a trendy mixed print look.  And just for the heck of it, I added a splash of color.  Now you try it and tag me either on

or

with your new found workwear look.  Good Luck!!
