I Turned An Ugly Dress Into A Cute Shirt

Top Atlanta Blogger, Atlanta Personal Stylist, dress over skirt Street Style

The best part about being a stylist is showing my clients how to make the most of their wardrobe.  What I've found is that most of them don't have bad taste in clothes, they just struggle with seeing the potential that's in their own closet.  That's why it's my job to help them develop the ability to see their closets full potential, which gives them the kick start they need to begin creating awesome outfits.

When it comes to shopping the first question you should be asking yourself before buying an item is - How many ways can I style this piece?  If you can come up with at least 3 ways, then it's a good buy.  Take today's look for example.  This thrifted marigold dress turned lace shirt didn't have any hanger appeal, yet I knew it had the possibility of being a cute top.  Removing the underlining was a game changer.

If you're into keeping up with the latest styles and trends, then you know see-through mesh or sheer is a thing.  And while I've dabbled with this trend on a small scale (see HERE) I'm still a little hesitant about people being able to see right through my clothes.  So here's what's funny, I knew immediately that I was going to style this top without anything under it - go figure.  Now we've seen this look styled with lingerie only or jeans and a tee-shirt beneath it.  I opted to wear a distressed denim mini skirt just so that my be-hind wasn't out for all to see.

Last month I hosted another Kläzit Raid shopping party and scored this bight colored marigold blazer that gave this look all kinds of springtime vibes.  My shoes are old from ShoeDazzle, but a cute red flat or sandel (or whatever shoe you decide) will work with this look.  The icing on the cake for me was the cigar box handbag with the colorful parakeets.

Btw, the first time I wore this top, I styled it with a pair of high-waist wide-legged jeans and platform heels.  The next time I wear it, I think maybe to pair it with a dress and sneakers.  So there you have it, 3 different ways to wear this ugly dress turned cute top.  Before I close, question.... Do you have anything in your closet that you can re-purpose?  Or what's your relationship with colors?  Do you try new colors or stick with your go-to ones?  Talk to me in the comments below.

What To Wear: Valentines Day Outfit Inspo

What To Wear: Valentines Day Outfit Inspo

The biggest argument my husband and I have is who love's who the most.  Is that corny or what?  He swears he love me more than I love him.  But truth be told, he might be right (but don't tell him I said so - wink, wink).  What matters most is that we are both madly in love with each other.

Last month we celebrated 9 years of marriage.  Which means this is our 9th Valentines together.  You would think I'd be really excited about this day of love.  And I would, if that were the only day hubs and I expressed our undying love and affection for one another.  He says I'm spoiled, but I think we spoil each other.  Man, I love to see the look on his face when I come home with a "surprise."

Ok enough about my marriage, you're here for the deet's on this Valentines Day look.  Can I just say that the color red (or pink) is such a typical and expected color to wear in celebration of V-day.  I lean towards other bold and bright colors.  However, these red OTK boots from Shoeland got me rethinking my stance on the color red for Valentines.  See how I styled them HERE and HERE.

My ideal date night go-to look is a more relaxed look, while the Mr. prefers me in something sexy.  Today's look satisfies both of our desires - comfortable yet chic.  Instead of a blazer I decided to layer this DIY'd hoodie (also worn HERE) over a white shirt dress and dressed up the look with these awesomely amazing red boots for a pop of color.

I completed the look with this faux patent leather mini crossbody from Forever 21.  The one I'm carrying isn't available online and I'm sure it's probably not at the store either, but this patent mini handbag or this quilted patent crossbody are equally as cute.  I wish I could remember where I got my sunnies, sorry!  However, you could probably find a fun pair at your local mall.

What are your style plans for Valentines day?  Are you going out or staying in?  Let's talk in the comments.

If I Were Going To NYFW, I'd Wear These JustFab Booties

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, NYFW, New York Fashion Week, Atlanta style blogger, Justfab shoes, Silver booties, thrifted fashion

Part of me is thinking, it's Wednesday already!  But the other part is thinking, 'What do you mean it's only Wednesday!' I guess I shouldn't complain since I didn't have to set my alarm this past Monday.  But still...

Guess what starts tomorrow?  New York Fashion Week.  I know this because up and down my Instagram feed I'm seeing a few of my fave style bloggers prepping for this major fashion event.  While I'm not attending this year, that doesn't mean that I can't dress as if I were.

New York is a fabulous city, which is why I was wonderstruck on my first visit.  For starters it is just like it is on TV.  The coolest part was that on any given corner, subway ride, restaurant visit or cross walk you are bound to encounter a walking fashion statement.  These people are serious about style.

Most intriguing was that a lot of women wore heels.  I'm not talking about the little kitten heels that's trying to make a comeback, I'm talking about 3+ inch heels.  So when JustFab sent me these Madelina BootiesI was like heck yeah!  These would be perfect for NYFW

Right on trend, metallics are in my friend.  And with fall right on our backs, these booties are perfect to help you transition into the next season.  They are surprisingly comfy and fierce all at the same time.  Since I can't make it to NY this time, I can not wait to walk the streets of Atlanta in these silver beauties.

*Quick story... When I was shooting this look a mom and dad with their young son walked by and the little guy was like, "Mommy look at those cool shoes!  Can wear those?!?!"

The Madelina Bootie in silver is definitely worth adding to your shoe collection.  Also linked (HERE) are other trendy metallic options from JustFab

Shirt Dress + Patchwork Denim

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, patchwork denim, shirt dress, cobalt backpack, shoedazzle, mirrored sunglasses, Atlanta style blogger

It's been said that a women who cuts her hair is about to change her life.  So not only did I cut my hair, I went even bolder on the color.  Check me out!  While I had no intention of going this bright, I really like it and my son thought it was pretty cool too.

Very seldom do I shop for specific pieces, typically I look for things that stand out and fit my personal style.  Mainly I envision how many ways it can be styled.  So can you imagine my amazement when I slid through the racks and found these patchwork jeans.  Sometimes, while out thrifting, I question why do people give away such awesome garments.  But then I quickly thank them and bask in the excitement of a new find.  This is another look that further solidifies my reason for thrifting.  This look can surely take me from the office to happy hour.  I paired these mixed print heels with this look to give it a fun spring feel.  The backpack was just the cherry.  Happy Tuesday style lover's!

Monochrome Blush + Sneakers

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Monochrome streetstyle, Atlanta style blogger, Shoedazzle, Blush dress

Welp, it's FRIDAY!  Feels like it was just Monday or is that just how it feels to me?  Anywho... I've had a fairly eventful week so I'm definitely looking forward to the weekend.  Hope your weekend is as fabulous and mines will be.

Today's outfit post is brought to you by ShoeDazzle and is such a cute look to finish out the first week of spring.  When SD asked me to review this 'Cuff Sleeve Shirt Dress', I was more than happy to do so.  And if I'm being honest with you, I was a little skeptical to.  I'll order shoes, handbags and accessories online all day long, but I pause a little when it comes to clothes.  I love driving to the store, searching through the racks and trying on the clothes - weird huh?  We all have our quirks.  Turns out, I had nothing to be skeptical about.  The color, the quality of the material and the length all get a thumbs up from me.  This shirt dress is certainly going to be in rotation this spring and summer.  To keep the look simple and fun, I wore my current all time fave SD 'Rhiannon' sneakers in white and the 'Cedar' satchel in blush.  I completed the look with a studded statement necklace.

Fringe Vest + Distressed Denim

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Atlanta style blogger, Atlanta wardrobe stylist, Fringe vest, Justfab distressed denim, Shoedazzle marigold crossbody

If you are the queen (or king) of the snooze button, then you already know that every now and then you over snooze and end up having to throw an outfit together.  This look is a result of such an occasion.  And to make matters worst, this was also the day that I was co-representing ShoeDazzle at a Pop Up Shop hosted by the W Hotel Downtown.  This was so not the look that I was going for, but hey it still worked out.  What I like most about this look are these distressed high waisted skinnies.  Although they are a bit long for my short 5 foot frame, the comfort level is really good.  In preparation for a night of standing, my shoe BFF was the 'Kala' bootie in Tan.  Such a great pre-spring outfit.

Mustard Sweater + Animal Print Booties

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Atlanta style blogger, Atlanta stylist, Black blogger

Hey y'all!  It's Monday yet again and this time last week, I was sitting around in my pj's binge watching the HGTV show 'Little House Big Living'.  Since I became a homeowner, I've become slightly consumed with watching home design shows.  I can't wait to bring you guys along as I beautify my new home.

Although I'm an early raiser, I am not a morning person and Monday mornings are always the roughest for me.  So often times, I'm looking to wear something that doesn't require a lot of brain activity.  So today's outfit is fairly simple.  I decided on a semi monochrome look with this fuzzy sweater and knit bodycon skirt.  To keep from looking like a jar of mustard I added a blue stripped shirt dress and animal print booties which can be treated as a neutral.  Adding a little effort I switched from my weekend handbag to this cute crossbody with fringe tassel.

Man I tell you, if I had it my way, I'd only work Tuesdays, Thursdays and every other Wednesday.  But I suspect that's because I'm not, YET, a full time entrepreneur.  But I digress...

Bomber Jacket + OTK Boots / Holiday Lookbook - Style 1

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Atlanta style blogger, Atlanta wardrobe stylist

Happy Holiday's style enthusiasts, this is the most wonderful time of the year!  A time filled with holiday dinners, parties and other celebratory events.  But for the fashion conscience, the number one question is - What Am I Going To Wear?  Well guys, because I'm super cool, lol, I've created a few dope looks to get you through your next holiday event.

This look is simple for that one event that doesn't call for an over the top look, but you still want to be cute.  I wore this F21 bomber jacket over a shirt dress and these OTK boots from ShoeDazzle.  This colorblock clutch really brought this look together.

Fur Vest + Shirt Dress

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Shirt Dress, Faux Vest, Atlanta style blogger, Atlanta stylist, shoedazzle

How's your first few days of the year going?  I'm on the highest cloud.... Tomorrow my husband and I will be on a flight to Punta Cana, DR for the next few days.  And I CAN NOT WAIT!!!!!  The other exciting part to this trip is that I'm 95% packed.  I always wait until the night before and then I'm sleepy the first day of my trip; but not this time.  A sista is ready.

So if you've been following me on Instagram or Facebook, then you'll know that this look is sorta out of my realm.  I've had this faux fur vest for almost a year.  To be honest I've never really been into any type of fur.  I was stepping outside of my norm when I bought this piece.  Here lately I've been kinda revamping my look.  Although I'm not really sure which direction I want to go in, I think this is a start.  What do you think?
