Wearing A Trench Coat The Cool Way

Melodie Stewart, Atlanta Personal Stylist, Top Atlanta Blogger

I’ve never been into long coats, mainly because I’m short and sometimes it’s hard for me to find a long coat that I like and that doesn’t make me look like I’m wearing my husband’s coat.

Like I said, I’m short so styling this trench to compliment my height was key. For this look I pushed up the sleeves, added a screen tee, an awesome pair of distressed over-sized boyfriend jeans and a cute pair of nude booties. Instant coolness!

I’m thinking the next time I wear this trench it may be on a date night with the Mr, with nothing on underneath (I’ve always wanted to do this) and a sexy pair of heels. Btw here’s the other two times I’ve worn this trench >>> HERE & HERE.

I Am Absolutely Here For The Animal Print Trend

Melodie Stewart, Atlanta Top blogger, Personal Stylist

Animal prints have been a thing for a while, but doesn’t it seem like all of a sudden this trend has really taken over fall 2018? Or is it just me being that detached from the fashion scene? From leopard to cheetah, snakeskin, zebra and tiger prints, animal spots are taking over like Cash Money did for the 99 and the 2000.

I’ve not really been into wearing animal print until recently. Now it seems like that’s all I’ve been looking for. I’m actually on the prowl for a super cute leopard print skirt (I thought I found one, but my size wasn’t available.)

Y’all when I say I am definitely feeling myself in this funky street style look. I’m totally girl crushing on my own self. There’s something about wearing animal print that just exudes dopeness vibes. And when you put red with it…. boy stop! All I’m saying is if you don’t already have something animal print in your wardrobe, that should be your next purchase. Be it a shirt, skirt, pants, blazer, hat, scarf, shoe, dress panties or bra. You need to get down with this trend.

I can’t say it enough, a blazer is the easiest and quickest way to get out of your “what to wear” dilemma’s. You can add a blazer to just about anything outfit and watch your look go from oh, okay to girllll your outfit is soooo cute. Trust me, I know this from experience.

As always I hope this look inspires you to step outside of the box and to experiment with different styles. No matter your age or size. Til next time…. Happy Weekend!

That One Time I DIY'D A Pair Of Suspenders

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Atlanta Style Blogger, Tuxedo Pants, DIY Suspenders, Atlanta streetstyle

Yesterday I posted (although late) my spring visual lookbook (check on it).  Today's look is the last look from the lookbook.  I created this look to attend a fashion show.  While I didn't attend the show, I did get a chance to wear this outfit to another event.

This entire look came about because I had this crazy idea to bedazzle a pair of suspenders.  So I took to several thrift stores with the intent on finding really cool pendents and pins.  The downside to this little project was that I had to buy the suspenders from Macy's.

Mixing a causal tee with a dressy bottom is a fun way to either dress up or dress down your ensemble.  I was going for a casual chic street style look.  By pairing this screen-t with these wide-legged tuxedo pants, I can easily take this look to a day meeting followed by a mid-week girls night out.

In case you were wondering, let me tell you what you'll need in order to create your own diy suspenders.

  1. One pair of suspenders
  2. Glue gun + glue sticks
  3. Pins/pendents of your choice (you can find really unique pieces from the thrift store)
  4. Arrange each piece on the straps in the place you desire and glue it down (or pin it)
  5. Easy - Peasy

What are your thoughts on mixing casual and dressy?  And, if you don't mind, tell me what you thought about my suspenders.  Drop a line in the comments.

Metallic Gold skirt + Printed Pumps

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Atlanta Style Blogger, Metallic gold skirt, screen-t

Here's to another week of fabulous-ness!  Guy's my weekend was pret-ty amazing.  I got a chance to visit behind the scenes at my local Goodwill, which was awesome and yesterday I covered the Grind Pretty workshop hosted by Atlanta MUA Mimi J, go here for my recap.

I'm so unattached from pop culture, I had no idea that Beyonce and Jay Z dropped a track titled "Shining, all of this winning."  Kaylin my photographer asked me a question about the shirt and I was like, huh?  I had know idea what she was talking about.  AND, I still haven't heard the song.  But the story behind this shirt is simple, a friend designed it and asked me to wear it.  In keeping with the message on the shirt, I wore my shiny gold skirt and strappy gold printed pumps.  How are you going to shine this week?  Let me know in the comments!

Screen T + Tuxedo Pants / Holiday Lookbook - Style 3

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Atlanta style blogger, Atlanta wardrobe stylist

Because dresses aren't the only look for holiday parties, I'm borrowing part of today's look from the boys.  I considered dressing up these tuxedo pants but felt that was expected.  Instead I opted for a screen-t, layering again with a turtleneck (kinda my thing right now) and covered up with this bronze colored jacket.  I was suppose to wear a pair of black mens inspired slide on flats, but the way my height is set up, I had to go with heels.  While this look may be considered tom-boy chic, it can definitely be worn to your company's holiday party or to your girls night out NYE countdown celebration.

Springtime Ready

Hi Stylenista's

The weather in the "A" is starting to warm up and I can't wait to break out a few pieces that I thrifted during the cold months.  I've even started working on my shoes collection for spring '15.

Notice anything different?  You guess it!  My hair is slightly different.  Since I've been natural, I've only had my hair straightened twice.  I love my hair in it's natural state, I just wish I would have big chopped sooner.  My hair goal is to have a fro as big as the moon (kidding) but I would like for it to grow more.

When I thriftshop, I never look for anything in particular.  My goal is to find something super cute, different and multi-functional.  I was having a rough day at work so I decided that I needed a little resale therapy.  So as I meandered through the aisles, I came up on this emerald green full skirt - buying it was a no brainer.  Although I'm frugal when it comes to shopping, I had to go retail to get this black jacket.  Isn't it everything?  I really really liked how this look came together.  Leave a comment and let me know what you think.
