An Exciting Spin On A Black And White Outfit

melodiestewart.com, black and white street style, Top Atlanta blogger

There is nothing more stylish than a black and white outfit, I can’t say this enough. These two colors together pack a mighty punch and can be bold and simple at the same time. And is hands down the easiest color combo to wear - ever! Each year Pantone declares the color of the year and while I love wearing colors, black and white will always be my two colors of the year.

My obsession with this monochrome color combo will probably never end. Which is why I’m always looking for ways to keep my black and white looks from being bland and boring. Like I said, black and white paired together is super easy and the different ways to style these two colors are endless.

Although I’ve worn this pleated skirt before, this time around I dialed it up a notch by adding a little texture. This textured tri-colored pleated skirt is dope by itself, but since I can be extra from time-to-time I opted to go for a black and white polka dot shirt instead of plain black or white. I played with the idea of wearing a polka dot blazer, but went with a solid black blazer instead.

To complete the look, I wore a pair of foiled silver metallic loafers and black dotted tights. My accessories included a little box handbag along with a pair of red thin retro cat-eye sunglasses on trend right now (btw, when they first hit the scene I hated them and said I’d never buy a pair. Moral of the story, never say never!)

As always, I hope this look inspires you to step out of the box and try new ways to style your black and white clothes. Even though you might not have these exact items in your closet, you can still find interesting ways to create stylish black and white looks.

Ankle Boots In The Summer... Is It Still Cool?

boots in the summertime, atlanta personal stylist, top atlanta blogger

I can’t count how many times I’ve advised my personal stylist clients to take a risk, step outside of the box, shake things up a bit (a bunch).  With today’s look, I’m taking my own advice - hence the booties in this Hotlanta weather.  Honestly, I never understood the whole boots in summer trend (or the sandals in winter).  Yet here I am.

One of my go-to methods for putting a look together is to start with my shoes first, then build the look from there.  Scanning over my shoe collection I kept coming back to this floral print ankle bootie.  All the while I’m telling myself boots aren’t meant to be worn in hot weather.  But wouldn’t you know it, my mind had already started putting together an outfit.

Instantly I remembered this canary yellow ruffle skirt (also worn HERE) that I picked up a while ago at Ecologie Vintage Shop (if you’re into vintage, you need to check them out).  With all the colors in this bootie, it was exciting coming up with different ways to style the rest of the look.  After several options, I ended up going with this blue polka dot button up top and fuchsia pink blazer.  This could even be a workwear ensemble - #outfitinspo.

Here’s the kicker guy’s… I’m not even thrilled with this look.  I mean it works, but it’s the booties in the summer that keeps blowing my mind.  What are your thoughts on wearing boot/booties in the summer time? Let me know in the comments below.

What's So Bad About Kitten Heels?

top atlanta blogger, atlanta personal stylist

When it comes to fashion and style, I like to think that my style stands out a little bit above the rest.  I mean what's not to like about my unique perspective on style (lol)?  It's an expression of me, which it should be.  That's why I tread lightly when it comes to trends.  And if more than 3 or 4 style influencers I follow on social is wearing something I've been eyeing, I won't even attempt it (unless I just can't resist).  It's the petty in me - wink, wink.

Also, if I'm being honest, I love walking into a room and seeing people look me up and down because my outfit is so unique.  The goal is always to stand out in the crowd, not blend in.  This is probably why thrifting will always be my first go-to when it comes to stand out wardrobe pieces.  Plus, I won't have to worry about ending up at some event with the same thing on that so-and-so has on.

A few weeks ago, I asked the poll question on my insta-stories if anybody else besides me were a fan of the kitten heel.  By a land slide, the majority of responses was Heck No!  I can't say that I was shocked.  I mean the kitten heel for years has been considered old fashion and the shoe your grandmother wore on special occasions.  But the kitten heel trend has come back strong (or has it?)

Like most people, I wasn't always a lover of the kitten heel, especially if you're talking about the style of the shoe back in the day.  However, the different style of these two inch heeled shoes now-a-days makes me giddy on the inside.  Take today's footwork for instance.  This little heeled shoe is making a huge statement with the ruffled detailing on the top.  I love that it adds just the right amount of pizazz to this look and they are comfortable.

One thing I will say is, you have to be careful how you style it.  If styled the wrong way your look can quickly go down hill.  My first time wearing these cuties, I decided this faux leather pleated skirt from Shein was the way to go.  I opted for a mix print black and white combo with the polka dot shirt and striped blazer.  The polka dot socks were added because I'm just extra.

I hope to be able to wear these kitten booties again before springtime weather kicks in full time.  What are your thoughts on the kitten heel trend?  Drop a line in the comments and tell me if you're a fan or not.  I've also provided shopping links to a few other kitten heel options to wear during the spring/summer months.

Polka Dot Button-down + Red Bowtie

Melodie Stewart-The Style Klazit-Polkadots-Funky Flair Boutique-Atlanta Style Blogger-Atlanta Stylist

Some people are like wait - what; it's November already?? And all over social media you see saying such as finish the year out strong, make the rest of 2016 your %*&@#, but I'm over here like, I'm just getting the hang of things.  One thing I can say is that I've learned sooo much about myself and my resilience to be the best at being ME!!!

Okay! When I was trying to put this look together, I wanted to wear my floral print necktie.... BUT! I couldn't find the flipp'n thing so I had to go with this red bowtie from Funky Flair Boutique instead.  If you've been hang'n with me for a while you already know that the black/white combo is one of my things.  But I like to play with my b/w combo.  One thing I love about thrifting is coming up on brand items for a fraction of the cost.  Both the H&M vest and the polka dot shirt are thrifted; but you can find a similar vest here.  The button-down here, here or here.  Black jeans are common and should be a staple in your closet.  My $8 jeans from F21 have held up really well.  To complete my look, I decided on these Makemechic animal print flats.  Since I still work a 9-5, I really like sprucing up my office attire.  I dare you to give this look a try!!!

When you don't watch a lot of TV you miss really dope shows like

Bet's

"

Black Girls Rock

".  Living with a sports fanatic (my husband) and a cartoon specialist (my 7 year old) I don't get much TV watching in.  So last night while eating dinner I decided to watch something.  And let me tell you,

This show was absolutely amazing!!!  Granted I'm just watching the 2015 show, but it made me sooo proud to be a black woman.  Seeing a room filled with beautiful, talented and gifted black women was extra inspiring.  It made me fill like my journey thus far will all be worth it after while.  I'm totally a Black Girl Who Rocks!!!

A Pop Of Color

For the last few weeks I've been all mixed up.  Mainly because I'm super excited about my

ShoeDazzle

New York Meet Up in just a few days.  Now that the weather has gotten cooler, I'm not sure what I'm going to wear.  I've heard that the temp's are already in the 40's.  Instead of the cute sandals I was hoping for, I now have to pull out my boots, sweaters, scarfs and maybe a coat... Either way I've already planed to do some Major shopping.  Can't wait to give you guys a recap.
