A Simple Spring Weekend Outfit That Still Looks Put Together

Brunch Outfits, Leopard Blazer, DIY Distressed Shorts, Polka dots Mules, Melodiestewart.com

Don’t cha just love short weeks, they get you right back to the weekend a lot sooner, right?

When it comes to weekend wear, most of us (yes me too) tend to lean towards comfort and ease, especially if you’ve been in work attire all week. There have been time when my weekend getup at some point consisted of a not so impressive top and bottom combo. But what if you can combine comfort and ease with style? I’m here to tell you ma’am (or sir), it’s absolutely possible.

Enter this super easy and simple causal weekend look. It only took 5 pieces to create this look, but what makes it stylish is the character that each piece offers.

For starters we have the white t-shirt. I cannot stress this enough; you NEED a white tee in your wardrobe. Nothing beats the style and versatility of the white t-shirt. I opted for my favorite pair of distressed black denim shorts, but any fun pair of shorts will do.

Now you already know how much I love a good ol blazer, so this lightweight leopard print blazer was just what this look needed to give this causal look a bit of edge. Blazers are awesome in that they create a level of fashion-forwardness that you, your momma and your cousin could surely pull off. As for accessories, I chose these orange polka dotted mules and black patent mini crossbody.

You don’t have to have a lot of money or clothes to look great nor do you have to dress to the gawds in order to look put together. Take some time to really look at what’s in your closet and challenge yourself to pair pieces together that you might not have ever thought of before. You’d be surprised what you come up with.

Until next time…

Sequin Skirt + Polka Dot Sweatshirt For Valentine's Day

Sequin Skirt + Polka Dot Sweatshirt, Atlanta top blogger, Atlanta personal shopper

With Valentine’s day only a few days away, my anticipation is increasing. I already know what I’m getting. A delicious box of juicy chocolate covered strawberries and a yummy candy apple. Ya’ll!

I remember my first V-day as a married woman. We had just gotten hitched the month before and thought it would be a great idea to go out to eat. Bad move, we ended up waiting almost two hours for a meal that was just meh! After that, we decided that we were good on trying to go out on Valentine’s day. Although this year I took off work and we’ve planned to celebrate our undying love for each other during the day.

With February 14 being so close, have you decided what to wear? If the Mr and I were to have a night out on the town, this polka dotted sweatshirt and sequin skirt (with the socks and heels -because I’m just that extra) look would be my #OOTN. It’s so unconventional and a direct reflection of my personal style.

While the classic reds, pinks and blacks are the obvious choice, why not use this opportunity to try something new, something bold? Basically this is your chance to step outside of your comfort zone and to face your fashion fears head on. Just imagine you try something different and you actually like it!

Just in case you need a little inspiration, you’re already in the right place. My blog is full of style inspo.

3 Things I Plan To Do Differently In 2019

Top Atlanta blogger, Style Blogger, Atlanta Personal Stylist

Photography: Kaylin James

It’s the last day of January and I’m feeling pret-ty good. Crossing over into the new year, I didn’t write up a list of resolutions that I probably wasn’t going to accomplish anyway. Instead, I decided to re-evaluate my current status and look for areas of opportunities to improve on.

Last year when I attended Werk Pray Slay, a women’s empowerment conference, hosted by Koereyelle, I had the opportunity to interview her afterwards. Needless to say, I thoroughly enjoyed our conversation. Of all the questions that I asked Koe, one particular answer struck a cord with me…

MS: What’s your biggest piece of advice you have for female entrepreneurs?

Koe: Know what you want.  In order to chase your dreams/visions you have to know yourself enough to know what you want.

Ever since, I’ve been on a mission to re-discover what DOI want. The answer >>> I want to elevate myself - personally and professionally. Meaning I’ll be removing people, places and things out of my life that aren’t doing me any good and replacing it with all the people, places and things that will help me improve myself. Although there are more than three things I could do differently, here are three areas I plan to start with first:

  • STAY FOCUSED

My mind runs a mile a minute. I’m constantly thinking of just about everything, from bills and family to my blog and brand. Getting focused is a struggle let me tell you. But this year I’m honing in on how to eliminate distractions so that I can focus on what matters. Another struggle for me and maybe one of my biggest obstacles is procrastination. This thorn in my side has caused me much frustration. Because my mind is always in overdrive I’m either not starting or starting something and not finishing. However, what I’m learning to do is identify and prioritize what deserves my attention and then dedicate time to focus on completing the task.

Other tricks I hope will work is doing one thing at a time or completely unplugging for a bit in order to re-set then start again.

  • PRAY MORE

THIS! There was once a time I prayed and studied my bible everyday. Nowadays, not so much. Being a pew baby, sometimes I feel bad for missing out on my prayer and study time. While I can offer up a 1000 excuses (and some may even be legit), there isn’t any excuse good enough for not giving the Father his time. Although I haven’t come up with an effective method for incorporating this special time with the Lord into my daily living, I am focusing on taking this journey one day at a time.

  • BET ON MYSELF

I’ll admit, social media has been the devil for me at times. Scrolling down Facebook and Instagram taking in all these beautifully curated squares showcasing “the life”, I started to question my own existence (okay maybe that’s a bit much, but you get what I’m saying). Seriously though, I understand how it seems when you’ve been grinding harder than Ginuwine in the ‘Pony’ video only to feel like someone who’s younger, taller, prettier, smarter, faster or richer is getting all the opportunities you’ve been dreaming and praying for. At times it has made me doubt my own gifts and talents.

But guys, the pity party is over. No more feeling sorry for myself. From now on, I’m betting on myself. I’m choosing myself. Once I realized I was standing in my own way, I moved. I became my biggest fan, routing myself on. Even in fear, I’m still betting on myself. I’m giving myself a chance to win and win big. Even understanding that I may not always win, I’ll still bet on myself.

Before I get outta here, I want to leave this with you…. ‘While there may always be someone who can do “it” better than you, you cannot allow that to keep you from doing what you know you’re good at. That’s why there are different restaurants, different malls, different cars, different cell phone providers your market is tailor-made for you. Be encouraged not to give up and no matter what stay focused on your assignment.

How To Rock In Mix Match Prints

Atlanta Personal Stylist, Top Atlanta Blogger

Mixing prints is one of my favorite all time style go-to's.  At this point, I can do it with my eyes closed.  However, it can be a little tricky to pull off if you're not careful.  But ya girl is sorta a pro at mixing prints.  Go see what I'm talking about HERE, HERE & HERE.

One to the key factors when mixing prints is to make sure the colors compliment each other.  Like in today's looks which is really simple.  Everybody knows that red, black and white go together.  I mean, anytime you see black and white paired together, the pop of color is more than likely red.

I happened upon this red striped poplin shirt from H&M while out shopping for my client.  I tell ya, being a personal stylist with a shopping addiction can't be a good thing right?  Wrong!  I didn't have to think twice about getting this top because a) it was on sale and b) it's been on my to-get list to add more printed/patterned tops to my wardrobe.  I love this shirt and have but it's almost sold out, however, Asos has a cute little red shirt that works or this short sleeved stripe shirt from Forever 21 is just as cute, especially for spring/summer temps

*Singing... If You Don't Know Me By Now.... You're not a loyal Style Kläzit fan if you don't know that black and white anything is my absolute fave.  Which is why ordering these black and white polka dot jeans from Forever 21 was a must.  The downside is that if you'r short like me (5') they will be a little on the long size and they are high waist.  I tend to shy away from wearing anything that has my mom gut on full display.  And if I had tried them on prior to shooting this look, I would have cut the hem (which I ended up doing after the fact).  I'm thinking about getting these polka dots pants, that's more my style.

Ladies and Gents, boys and girls!  If you'll focus your attention to these dope contrasting-coloured sneakers from Zara.  Y'all Zara is like my all time favorite place to shop for shoes.   If you're looking for funky and unique footwear, head to Zara.  Not only are these sneakers dope, they are comfortable and they were reasonably priced.  Another pair of Zara shoes that I'm in love with are these black kitten heel booties.  Oh, and these two-tone metallic oxfords with detachable tassels are like everything.

Anywho, I hope your Monday is off to a great start and that your week is full of style and grace.  And if you have any questions about mixing prints, ask away in the comments!

Back To Work - Floral Mixed Print

Back To Work - Floral Mixed Print

Sunday's should come with a pause button, but since they don't I'm coming to you with another work wear inspo look.  Btw, the best time for new beginnings is NOW!

I work in a semi corporate arena where the dress code is not super tight, yet there are still certain things I can't wear.  That's why I'm always looking for ways to jazz up my work attire.  Did you catch last week's work wear inspo?  Would you wear this cute grey sweater dress to work?

So for today's look I'm sharing this floral print mix get-up.  Can I just say I'm totally digging my own look.  It's so me, lol.  Now before you say to yourself that you'd never be able to pull this look off, you totally can.  For this look I was able to pair these two prints together because they share the same colors.  (READ 3 Incredible Easy Way To Mix Prints Like A Pro)

It's really easy to put on a pair of slacks with a plain blouse, but how fun would it be to go bolder?  A bold color or print does wonders for your look and your attitude.  Of course I can no longer find my pants online, however these printed pants from Forever 21 or these floral print pants from Asos will work awesomely.  Again when mixing prints, don't forget to balance the look with a print that has the same colors.

To complete this look, I added this thrifted fuchsia blazer for a pop of color and opted for these wine colored brogues.  Truth be told, a handbag this size isn't something I'd carry to work.  I'd downsize to this faux leather crossbody and if I could do this look over these cuties from Shein would probably be more suitable.

Do I Walk Away Or Go Harder?

Top Atlanta Blogger, Top Black Bloggers, Atlanta Style Blogger

For the last few months I've been feeling sorta defeated, no frustrated or maybe exhausted.  I guess to sum it all up, I've just been in my feelings.  This is not to say that all is falling apart, it's just that things aren't really happening how I'd envisioned.  Don't let these blog pics or my IG feed fool you ma'am / sir.  I'm a work in progress.

Top Atlanta Blogger, Top Black Bloggers, Atlanta Style Blogger

The month of October to some signifies the last quarter of the year.  This is the time to really give it all you got.  To end the year strong.  But for me, this month brings me to my 12th year (TWELVE YEARS!!!!) being at my job.  It's kinda unbelievable.  Honestly I didn't think I'd last more than 5 years.  The plan was to make my way back to nursing school, graduate and get a job as a travel nurse.  If the travel nurse thing didn't pan out, I'd work as a trauma nurse in Grady Hospital's trauma center.  Obviously neither plan worked out (insert sad face).

Here I am close (really close) to 40 and still trying to 'figure it out'.  At the 4 year mark on my job, I started to realize that school was getting further away.  Yet, I wasn't willing to settle for the hand that life was showing me.  So I reached out to my baby sister with a plan to start our own image consulting company.  She thought it was a great idea and jumped on board.  Three years later.... What company???

Now what was I suppose to do?!?!  Walk away and just be grateful that I have a descent job with okay benefits OR regroup and try something else.  Over the last few years, I've been regrouping.  I can't even tell you how many times I've regrouped.  It's frustrating!  It's overwhelming at times ( a lot of times) and other times I'm literally on the verge of quitting and running the opposite direction.

But the thing is.... I can't just walk away.  Even though I've tried talking myself out of chasing my dreams and creating a life where I live what I love.  I CAN'T!  I have to much at stake.  I've invested so much already.  Yes it's hard, but I'm driven to go harder.  Complaining is easy, procrastinating is the breeding ground for fear of failure or the unknown.  Feeling bad for myself is ridicules.  I will gain nothing from any of this.

While I'm not where I'd like to be.  I'm motivated in the notion that I will succeed.  One day I'll look around and see what has taken money, sweat and years.  And by the power of the tongue I declare to myself everyday that I'm going to 'blow up.'

At this point guys, it's go hard or go harder!

Vintage Mix Prints + Faux Fur Vest

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Atlanta Fashion Stylist, Atlanta Style Blogger

Happy New Year!!!!!!!!! I'm so ready for all the bombtastic opportunities this year will bring.  Last year was full of learning moments that will definitely propel me into to my goals this year and beyond.  I hope that this will be one of the best years of your life from this point forward.

I love blending old and new school fashion from time to time, so today's outfit post is doing just that.  Grandma's floral blouse and pleated floral skirt is not so appealing by itself, so I added the fuzzy fur vest and wine oxfords.  And since the skirt was a wee bit too big I cinched it with a skinny belt.  The key to this looking coming together was that I paired two types of the same print and shared the same color scheme.  What do you think about mixing prints?

3 Incredible Easy Ways To Mix Prints Like A Pro

mixed prints, Atlanta blogger, style blogger, blogger, black blogger, street style, spring fashion, Atlanta style blogger

In just a few days, my favorite season officially begins – SPRING!!!!!!  What I love most about spring are the longer days, warmer weather aanndd the assortment of colors.  Although I wear bright colors throughout the year, this time of year is when I really throw caution to the wind and indulge in colors and prints.  But if you follow me on IG (follow here), then you already knew that mixing prints is sorta my thang.  So if you've ever thought about trying out this trend, but didn’t have a clue where to start?  Well Miss Lady, I got you...

So you're ready to get your feet wet with mixing prints?!  For a beginner, your first step is to start off with mixing colors not prints.  I would suggest starting off with black and white.  You can't really go wrong with this color combo.  A little polka dot top hear with maybe a stripe bottom or a floral bottom in combination with a plaid or even tribal print top.  Any two of the same shade of color would do, just make sure that the colors are balanced.

I Am Necole

Are you ready for the next step?  Good!  Now let's wade a little further out into the deep.  Next you can start playing with different prints that share the same color or shade.  When you keep the colors in the same family, this helps to make sure that the prints aren't competing against each other.  So even if the prints are different the colors with bring the look together.

The Style Kläzit

Alright, you still with me?  Okay!  Now you're ready for the big leagues.  Mixing bold patterns with low contrast patterns can seem tricky; but completely doable.  Just make sure to scale each piece accordingly.  So if your top is colorful, your bottom can contain at least two of the colors in the top.  Or your look can contain two of the same patterns/prints but in different colors.  Mixing two or three different prints/patterns is completely fine, just as long as the colors compliment each other.  The objective is to create a bold statement without being overly busy.

BitterSweet Colours

Here's a bonus tip for you...  If you're not ready to plunge into mixing prints with you clothes, start small.  Mix matching your accessories, such a handbag, a belt, a scarf or a hat.  Even your shoes can be used to create a print mix look.  Sounds like fun.  Are you ready to start mixing and matching today?
