My Outfit Came From The Menswear Department

melodiestewart.com, top atlanta blogger, atlanta personal stylist, My Outfit Came From The Menswear Department

Women in menswear is a trend that’s been around for quite some time and making it look stylish is not as hard as you might think. So once again I’m borrowing style inspo from the boys.

Growing up I didn’t get to start freely wearing pants until high school (shocking I know), but that didn’t stop me from sneaking and wearing my dad’s or brothers clothes whenever I could. The kicker, though I didn’t know it at the time, was where I got to experiment with adding menswear into my style. And here I am over 20 years later still wearing mens clothes.

I got both the denim shirt and cargo shorts from the mens section at the thrift store. You guys don’t sleep on shopping the mens section, no matter if it’s retail or resale. You might actually find a few gems.

Now more than ever, comfort is the objective when it comes to getting dressed. Like if there’s a possibility that I’ll have to suck in the mom gut all night or a chance that my feet after an hour will feel like I’ve been dancing on nails, I can’t get down with that outfit.

The cool thing about wearing menswear is I don’t have to worry about the clothes fitting too tight, yet it can still be flattering. All I’m saying is styling oversized looks has been a game changer.

There’s just something swagalicious about a stylish man. I mean what’s not to like about a man who takes pride in how he looks. It’s eye catching to see a guy who is fashion forward and not afraid to show it.  So for today’s look I’m totally borrowing a little style inspo from the boys, again.

Typically when I’m putting a look together, I start with one item I want to wear, then build the rest of the look from that item.  What inspired this look and what happens to be the centerpiece is the necktie.  It just pulls the whole ensemble together.

About four years ago I thrifted this blue blazer and it may or may not be too small.  Either way I’m going to continue to wear it until I burst out of it like I’m the incredible hulk. Finding such a blazer with the perfect cut for me ain’t easy (on account that I have short arms).  I’m also digging the vintage vibes this blazer gives off.

In keeping with the theme of the look, I paired this tri-colored striped tie with a light blue/white striped button down shirt.  Wanting to maintain the lady factor to this look, I decided on a pair of fitted distressed jeans (I could have also gone with a solid or printed pair of trousers) to show off my slim-thick curves and thangs.

To complete the look, after playing around with what shoes to wear I ended up going with these burgundy oxfords I scored many moons ago.  And last but not least, I finally got a chance to wear this vintage messenger bag (although the only thing in it for this pic was my phone and mine and Kaylin’s keys – Ha).

Now go forth and dress amazingly!!!

TP² Menswear Fashion Show || Recap

Melodie Stewart, Atlanta Style Blogger, TP Squared Menswear Fashion Show

Discover the new Menswear Fashion Collection of TP² Men’s Fall/Winter 2019 fashion show sponsored by Christopher Metzler, CEO of Mannish W

This past Saturday I had the pleasure of attending the “Press Play” runway show hosted by menswear clothing designers Tim Parks and Toney Powell at the Ambient Plus Studios in Atlanta.  The show displayed styles and fashion pieces that brought to the stage a unique mixture of colors and textures that are not only fashion forward but would be perfect for today’s modern man who’s looking to serve a bold look at their next board meeting or for a photo opt on the red carpet.

During the fashion show, the duo showcased pieces from their Spring/Summer swimwear collection, mens fashionable underwear and introduced us to their new Fall/Winter line.  Toney and Tim are not novices to the fashion scene.  Their pieces continue to grace the runway of high-end stores such as Bloomingdale’s and Neiman Marcus.  In fact, I’m proud to say that I was given the opportunity to style the women’s collection at their first fashion show in 2015.

The presentation also featured the collections of womenswear Fashion Designer Isaac Spry and Hat Designer Otis Damon.

Check out some pics from the event and be sure to follow TP² on Instagram via tp2atlanta.

Men's Inspiration + Silver Oxfords

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Atlanta style blogger, Atlanta stylist, Men's inspired look

Have you ever stood in your closet and asked yourself "What Am I Going To Wear?" Can I tell you this is my question most mornings?  Whenever I'm indecisive about what to wear, I start from the bottom.  Since I have a fairly decent shoe collection, I head to my shoe closet and let the shoes decide for me.  So the silver oxfords decided to make an appearance.  What I love most about these shoes is that they have the ability to completely change the style of anything I wear with them.  Today I'm biting from the guys in this men's inspired look.  I love a good andro look every now and again.  If you got my 30 Day Outfit Guide, you'll see I talk about the power of a blazer.  I could have stopped with the sweater but the blazer is what brought the entire look together.

What's your method for pulling a look together when you're clueless about what to wear?

Blazer, White shirt, Sweater, Tie -- Thrifted // Cropped pants -- F21 (similar hereherehere) // Oxfords -- F21 (similar here) // Backpack 'Milo' -- Justfab (similare here

Happy Thursday people!  It's almost the weekend and I'm ready to grab it by the horns.  Speaking of horns, this is Taurus season (doing a little dance).  Can you guess why I'm so happy?

My birthday is next month - Cinco de Mayo or the 5th of May.  I don't plan on doing much because it's not really a milestone year, plus I'm not that big on shindigs.  May is also my blogs 3rd birthday.  I really can't believe how far I've come to have had no clue about what I was doing in the beginning.  Can't wait to see what's to come.

Would you guess that I was a tomboy growing up?  All the way up to my first year in college.  When one day while sitting in class, I just decided that I wanted a change; I was going to tap into my feminine side.  But every now an then, I like to revert back to my tomboyish looks.  I just know now how to add some girlpower magic to the style.  What do you think, have you ever thought about menswear inspired fashion?

Please bow your heads in a moment of silence for my briefcase...............

Okay, I thrifted this mini briefcase a while ago.  Since I'm a huge fan of mens inspired looks I was grateful to the thrift gawds for this awesome find.  The reason for the moment of silence is because I ran over it after this photo shoot, tear!  Maybe I luck up on another one.

Are you ready for the holiday's?  I am!  I'm mostly looking forward to not having to wake up earlier for work.  This will give me a good chance to work on more valuable content for you guys.  2016 is going to be a lot better than this year.  The best is yet to come.

FEATURE Friday: Jamal Jackson / Style Society Guy

Feature Friday with Jamal Jackson of Style Society Guy.

As a wife and a mother of a young son, I often look for style inspiration from male "stylenisthim's."  I somehow came across this stylish young gentlemen's page and was so amazed.  Check out a few of his look and read our conversation to see why...

1.

How were you introduced to fashion/style?

Growing up my dad taught me the importance of grooming, cleanliness and always looking presentable.  So I think my love for fashion was kind of a spin off from that.   It wasn’t until I got older that I starting taking an interest in fashion and style.

* Who is your favorite style icon?

My style is a combination of neat and clean and eclectic and colorful.  For my neat and clean side,

David Beckham

.  He is the example of what my father taught me about how a man should look.  For my eclectic side, I would have to say

Pharrell Williams

or

Mark Ronson

.

* What’s your favorite season as far a fashion goes?

Spring!  The weather is just right for mixing and matching pieces from both spring and fall.  It’s a time where I can still wear my long camel coat, so rather than wearing a turtleneck, I can pair it with a Henley or I can wear my lighter weight leather jacket in lieu of my heavier one.  But most importantly, I was born in the spring!!!

* What made you start your blog?

I always wanted to be in an editorial position; however, I noticed that it was difficult to even obtain those types of positions.  Even if I had gotten in the door I would have been an assist doing basic duties.  Not to say that I was above being an assist, but I knew I needed a more creative outlet.  So I utilized the tools that I had in order to get my point across about menswear.  So it started from posting my #ootd on

Instagram

to what you see today.

* Do you feel that male bloggers get recognized the same as female bloggers?

Actually, yes.  Sometimes menswear gets more recognition than womens wear.  It even seems to be that the menswear community is more supportive of each other than in the womens wear community.  Men are more carefree and less competitive then women.  The science between men and women is unexplainable.

* What’s your signature look?

Definitely layering.  And in a close second is color blocking.  I really enjoy mixing the two trends.

* Where do you mostly shop?  How often do you shop?

I shop almost everywhere, but most of my clothes are from

Club Monaco

.  I am also heavy into thrift shopping.  I still have a lot of clothes from college and I receive clothes from clothing brands that I work with.  When I do shop, it’s mostly a once a month trip.

* If I looked in your closet, how would I find it arranged?

Ah!  Right now, it’s pretty embarrassing.  I’m in the process of rearranging my closet.  But, you find that I have tanks, shirts, t-shirts and long sleeves.  Then suits, jackets and coats.  My closet is very colorful.

* What’s the one wardrobe essential you can’t live without?

My leather jacket.  It’s like my fail safe piece.

* What’s the best advice you've ever received?

“Just be a sponge” Absorb as much as you can. Don’t listen to respond, listen to understand.

* What’s your favorite fashion magazine?

I don’t really have one.  When it comes to magazines, I read a lot of architectural magazines.  So my favorite magazine would be

Architectural Digest

.

* What is one thing people would be surprised to hear about you?

I would say that people might be surprised that I’m an only child, but probably not! Ha! Ha!  I think most people would be surprised that I really like to be alone.  If you look at my IG feed or my blog, you might disagree, but I really appreciate my alone time.  Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy my family and friends, but something I just really like that time to myself.

Masculine Chic

Hello Stylenista's,

It's Christmas eve and I haven't done any shopping.  Why? You Ask!  My husband did it all because he says that I'm a horrible gift giver.  (shrugs shoulders and slightly tilts head)  Any-who, I wish you a very safe holiday season.

You may not know, but I love the masculine-feminine look.  I have two people that really embody this style - Esther Quek and Janelle Monae.  Both of these lady's have really owned the menswear for women style.  What's really cool about JM is that she manages to pull off this look with only two colors.  Esther on the other hand is a beast hands down.  I can't wait to meet my personal designer.  We have some work to do.  Now the one up that I have on Esther and Janelle is that I achieved my look with thrifted pieces.  Can you guess which piece I paid the most for?

A Family That Styles Together...

Hi Stylenista's,

Happy Holidays!  Are you getting into the holiday spirit?  I'm starting to get there.  I'm just looking forward to not having to wake up as early.  I also have a few upcoming events that I'm a little excited about.  Any reason for me to "dress up" I'm all for it.  I get really charged when I'm thinking about what I'd like to wear for an event.

January 2015 will mark 6 years of married for me.  When my husband and I first met, we weren't fond of each other's style.  I thought he dressed like an old (dare I say it) pimp and he thought I was over the top.  However, after a little (a lot) of persuading, he has stepped out of the box and now you can't hardly tell him anything.  What's funny is that whenever we have a function to attend, you'd think we were preparing for some red carpet event.  To top it all off, our 5 year old son has inherited his parents style gene.

Hi Stylenista's!

Class is in session!  Today's lesson is about creating your own look all while doing so on a budget.  If you've been following my blog, then you should know that you don't have to spend a lot in order to look trendy.  As for myself, I like to see how I can come up with my own trendy look.

Guess what?  The only item that that I'm wearing that is NOT thrifted are my socks and shoes? And two of the pieces are name brand, get into that! This look is a mixture of a little vintage, a splash of modern with a twinkle of retro.
