My Outfit For The Last Day Of Summer 2018

Melodie Stewart, Atlanta Personal Stylist, Top Atlanta Blogger

It’s finally here, the last day of summer and with these 90 degree temps you can still bet on seeing lots of butt cheeks, thighs, midriffs and cleavage. For me, however, it means pulling out a few of my light weight fall pieces (that have been hanging in the closet waiting for their big debut) to transition in with my summer wardrobe.

In the mean time here’s my last official summer look. Going forward be prepare to see how I work a few summer pieces in with my fall wear. Hint, there will be lots of blazer looks (it’s kinda my thing.)

Take these cut up jeans turned shorts for instance, with the right light weight sweater or blazer and a dope pair of booties…. girlllll (or guy) that’s the making of a cute causal date night or girl night out outfit. The lace duster I bought on a whelm and kinda regretted it later because I wasn’t in love with it and what I paid for it, well lets just say I could’ve waited until some old lady donated a similar one to Goodwill.

On another note, my weekend should be pretty eventful. All I have to do is find my last look for the Mr. and I’s photo/video shoot happening this Sunday (it’s in preparation for our 10 anniversary vow renewal in January.) Because I have way more clothing options then he does, I decided to see what he would put together before I decided what I would wear. I wanted to make sure our looks coordinated (b/c I’m not into that matchy matchy thing - lame right?) Once he tried on what he wanted to wear, I realized I didn’t have anything and that my friends calls for…… A Shopping Trip!!!

I’ll probably take you along so be sure to follow me on the gram >>> @themelodiestewart for all the buziness, lol.

Whelp, that’s all folks. If you want drop a line in the comments about whateve’s you can or not. Either way have a fun and stylish weekend, xoxo!

How To Make Long Shorts Look Totally Cool

Atlanta personal stylist, top atlanta blogger, atlanta street style

I never really got into wearing shorts, especially shorts that showed too much thigh meat.  Reason 1. I had scrawny legs, but the main reason is because growing up in the church we couldn't wear pants or shorts.  Now that I'm an adult and can decide what I want to wear, short shorts are still a style I kinda shy away from.

If you're like me and short shorts aren't your thing, but you still want to rock a shorts ensemble, this look is for you.  Now-a-days it seems like the shorts are getting shorter and shorter.  I mean, some girls (and grown women) are walking these streets in shorts so short they may as well be underwear; booty cheeks out and everything (smh and giving the side-eye at the same time).  I don't get it, but to each their own.

In this look I'm sharing how to treat longer length shorts the same way you would a pair of shorter shorts or even a pair of jeans.  While most tend to go the T-shirt route when wearing denim, I chose to wear this off-the-shoulder black & white striped shirt (also worn HERE + HERE).  And because I absolutely love this marigold colored blazer I thought adding it to this look would make a great statement.  It's vibrant, light weight and perfect for this long shorts outfit (check out the first time I wore it HERE).

Whenever I'm shopping for myself or a client, the goal is to find pieces that are unique and that will make people stop and tell you how fabulous your ensemble is (I won't lie, I love that part).  That's where these super cute sneakers (first time wearing them in this look) with printed scarf adjustable laces come in to make this look stylish and trendy.  A mini book bag purse, some arm candy and a dope pair of shades.... Boom Shakalaka - A totally cool way to make long shorts look awesome.

I hope this look inspires you to think outside the box.  You'll never know if you like it or actually look good unless you give it a try.  I challenge you to spend a little more time and effort in your closet, you just might shock yourself at what you came come up with.  Btw... wanna see how I've styled these shorts before -- go HERE, HERE + HERE and that one time I wore a shorter pair of shorts HERE.

Tell me, would you try this look or something similar to it?  If not, what are your reservations for not trying this look?  Let's chat in the comments below.

Head Wrap's Are For Bad Hair Days

Atlanta personal stylist, top atlanta blogger, head wrap, atlanta street style

Who else besides me is a little discombobulated by being off on a Wednesday?  I mean really, a holiday in the middle of the week, Really!  In my humble opinion, holidays should always fall on a Friday or Monday?  Middle of the week or not, I took advantage of my time off by doing nothing.  I left the house once to go to the store for food, other than that I had no intention of stepping a foot outside.  Not even to watch the neighborhood fireworks.  I guess I really am getting older.  But baaa-bbyyy, next week is what I'm most excited about.  Hubs, his mini-me and I, along with my brother and his fam will be in Orlando and I am so ready.  I got my summer body together (not really, but pretend I do) and I'm ready to hit the pool and the beach (and maybe a thrift store or a mall)

Let's face it, bad hair days are inevitable.  No matter if you're black or white or yellow or polka dot, if you have hair, chances are you've had a bad hair day (days rather).  My first two years of being back natural was a bad hair day.  I had absolutely no idea what I was doing or what to do.  I even remember coming home after doing the big chop, walking in the door and the first thing my husband says (after looking at me like a strange alien) is "You're hair is ugly".  Man!!! That's when that for better or worst part comes in to play.  And it's a good thing I have tough skin.

Now-a-days most people wear head wraps for style purposes, yet wearing a head wrap could hold a deeper meaning for someone else.  Today's purpose is attributed to still looking fab when you're having a bad hair day.  I typically don't cover my head, because I have a love affair with my hair cut and color, but there are days when me and my hair are at odds.  That's when a cute decorative head wrap saves the day.

I copped this vibrant head wrap at THRIFTING ATLANTA'S Spring Market from BLACK GIRL TIARA'S.  Since I'm not really into the African or Ankara print trend, I almost didn't buy it.  Aside from being slightly talked into getting it, it was the mixture of bold colors that did it for me.  I've worn this wrap a few other times (bad hair day's of course) and each time I love it more and more.

My top is brought to you by good ole GOODWILL.  A few weeks ago I attended a shopping event at the Tucker, GA location and found this orange top.  On the hanger it looked way to big, but a quick try on, made me realize I'm bigger than what I think I am - how sway?  The best part about this top is that it hides my mom gut and surprisingly, I like the high-low hem.  Peaking out from underneath the top are a pair of distressed shorts (which have been in heavy rotation this spring/summer season).  Pairing these cobalt blue wedge sandals and marigold crossbody (both from SHOEDAZZLE) with this look was a fun way to play with the other colors in my head wrap.

Warning!  The top and shorts are thrifted and the sandals and handbag are from a couple of season's ago.  Meaning this entire look is not available for purchase.  But good news is you can use this look for style inspiration.  So if you come across an over sized top and distressed jean shorts, you can definitely recreate this look.  Don't forget to head over to BLACK GIRL TIARA'S to grab your own unique head wrap.

Distressed Denim Short + Over The Knee Boots

Distressed Denim Short + Over the knee boots

With temperatures in the 80's last week, I really thought winter was like, holla, I'm out!  And man-o-man, you should have seen the way all these little girls was out and about with booty shorts and tank tops on.  SMH!!!

Whenever the weather tries to play with my emotions, I go for looks that will keep me warm in the morning and at night when the temperatures drop, yet cool enough during the day when its warm.  Today's outfit works well with this tricky weather and it brings together both the fall/winter and spring trends.

Traditionally, over the knee boots are worn over a pair of jeans or maybe with a short skirt or shorter pair of shorts .  Which is why I decided to go with a longer pair of distressed shorts.  Of course I diy'd my shorts (because I refuse to pay full price for ripped up jeans).  If for some reason diy'ing your own shorts is not your forte, these distressed Bermuda shorts from Forever 21 would work just fineFor the cool chic factor (wink) I wore this wine colored biker jacket over a lose knit chunky sweater.  Let me just say that this sweater was in heavy rotation this season.

Now let's talk about my favorite piece of this look - these true blue faux suede over the knee boots from ShoeDazzle.  I almost passed on these boots because I told myself that I didn't need another shoe in my closet.  I really need to stop lying to myself.  I will always need a cute pair of shoes, boots, clothes, sunglasses or handbag in my closet - ALWAYS!  Glad I didn't listen to myself.  These boots are amazing and they're sold out - wonk, wonk.

Weekend Style Challenge

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Atlanta style blogger, Distressed shorts, olive duster, We love Atlanta, Weekend style inspiration

Whew! It's finally Friday. But it's been Friday for me since Wednesday. This week has just been one of those weeks where I felt like I was in the twilight zone. So I'm delighted that it's actually Friday.  Now let the weekend merriment begin.

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Atlanta style blogger, Distressed shorts, olive duster, We love Atlanta, Weekend style inspiration

For the past few weeks I've been super lazy about getting dressed.  I've been putting little to no effort at all into my wardrobe.  It's not for lack of clothes options,  I just haven't felt like it.  The slay (in real life) hasn't been real.  Nevertheless, it's the weekend and what better way to get out of this funk than with a style challenge.  Because if you look good you feel good, right?

Weekends for me usually mean family time.  Which, besides cleaning, may include grocery store shopping, going to the movies or home shopping (since we just bought a home last October.)  Typically if I'm running around with hubs and his mini me, I want to be comfortable.  However lately, I've been sacrificing cute for comfort.  Well guys the buck stops here! Today I do swear to be in style, nothing but style, so help me. And I challenge you to do the same.

Because my usual get-up generally consist of jeans, a T-shirt and a cool pair of shades, I decided to step this look up a notch.  So in lieu of my old faithful jeans, I opted for a pair of shorts I distressed from my local thrift shop.  I replaced the tee shirt for this peacock sleeve inspired top and layered this too small dress, dubbed olive duster for an element of street chic.  When it came to what bag to carry, I was undecided.  Should I wear the red crossbody from ShoeDazzle or the camel satchel with tassels.  Clearly the crossbody won.  I think it was the pompom that did it.  I should have gone with a sandal, because the arch on this bootie from Charlotte Russe was nothing nice to my feet.  But beauty is pain, huh?!

This weekend I challenge you to boldly wear something you have never worn before.  Get out of your comfort zone and make yourself wear something that you wouldn't ordinarily wear on the weekend.  If you're up for the challenge let me know in the comments.  Have a happy, fun and stylish weekend!!!
