An Exciting Spin On A Black And White Outfit

melodiestewart.com, black and white street style, Top Atlanta blogger

There is nothing more stylish than a black and white outfit, I can’t say this enough. These two colors together pack a mighty punch and can be bold and simple at the same time. And is hands down the easiest color combo to wear - ever! Each year Pantone declares the color of the year and while I love wearing colors, black and white will always be my two colors of the year.

My obsession with this monochrome color combo will probably never end. Which is why I’m always looking for ways to keep my black and white looks from being bland and boring. Like I said, black and white paired together is super easy and the different ways to style these two colors are endless.

Although I’ve worn this pleated skirt before, this time around I dialed it up a notch by adding a little texture. This textured tri-colored pleated skirt is dope by itself, but since I can be extra from time-to-time I opted to go for a black and white polka dot shirt instead of plain black or white. I played with the idea of wearing a polka dot blazer, but went with a solid black blazer instead.

To complete the look, I wore a pair of foiled silver metallic loafers and black dotted tights. My accessories included a little box handbag along with a pair of red thin retro cat-eye sunglasses on trend right now (btw, when they first hit the scene I hated them and said I’d never buy a pair. Moral of the story, never say never!)

As always, I hope this look inspires you to step out of the box and try new ways to style your black and white clothes. Even though you might not have these exact items in your closet, you can still find interesting ways to create stylish black and white looks.

What I've Learned After 10 Years Of Marriage + Vow Renewal Recap

Black Couples In Love, Black love, Vow Renewal

What better day than today to share a recap of our vow renewal. 10 years ago on January 10, 2009 I literally married my best friend. And guys, it still amazes me that even after 10 + years in, I’m beyond happily married.

Over the past decade we’ve been through A LOT and yet through it all we still really dig each other. But don’t get it twisted, staying together this long nowadays requires more than love. It entails work and being intentional.

For me the biggest lesson I’ve learned is not to make mountains out of mole hills. I mean so what he doesn’t put the toilet seat down after he uses the restroom. It cost me nothing to just put the seat down and pee. I’m sure there’s some things that I do that gets under his skin.

As Robert’s wife, it’s very important to me that he knows I’m his #1 fan and biggest cheerleader. Which is why I will never tear him down in his face nor behind his back. After God, he’s my first priority.

Another good lesson I’ve learned over time was to learn and love my husband in his love language. Hub’s primary love language is physical touch, followed closely by “acts of service.” Understanding this shows him how much I love him, because we all know actions speak louder than words - right?

If I had to name a key factor in what keeps our marriage running, I’d have to say sex! Yes guys, lots of sex. If you don’t take anything else away from this post, as a marriage couple you should never underestimate the importance of sexual intimacy. This is hubs favorite part of our marriage.

Speaking of hubs, when I asked him what his biggest lesson learned was he said - “I learned not to argue with you and to say, You’re right baby.”

Monochrome Mom Jeans, My Current Obsession

Monochrome Mom Jeans, Top Atlanta blogger, Atlanta Personal Stylist

One thing about me that most people don’t know is that I kinda have a thing for black and white. This color combo is so chic and super easy to style. The number of ways to style these two colors are endless. When I pair the two hue’s together, I feel regal and modern at the same time.

Noticing that most of my jeans are various shades of denim skinny jeans, I figured it was time to start incorporating other jean styles into my wardrobe. My most recent additions were these oversize distressed jeans and these frayed ankle jeans. Guys how stunning are these contrast leg mom jeans? I’m obsessed (even wearing them 3 times already)!

Wanting to highlight the uniqueness of these monochrome jeans, I decided to style this look with a pair of really cute and trendy kitten heel red booties. To keep the look simple, I opted for a style item that’s been on my to buy list for a while, a black turtleneck (secret, the top is really a bodysuit). And because I want to be considered a cool mom, I added this black leather jacket (that I begged hubs to buy for me). In this look I’m ready for date night out with the Mr, hanging with my home girls or attending a networking mixture.

What are you currently obsessing over? Drop a line in the comments.

Are You A Fan Of Wearing Shorts In The Fall?

Melodie Stewart, Top Atlanta Blogger, Fall Shorts Street Style

Summer is over and by now most people have already transitioned their wardrobes to match the current season.  However, there might be a handful of die hard style lover’s out here in these fashion streets making the most of their entire wardrobe.  While it might seem crazy to the average person, wearing shorts in cold weather is fire (get it – fire, man I’m lame).

A few weeks ago I wore this look to a fashion show (HERE) and I polled the question on my instastories if anybody wanted to see this look on the blog and I received a resounding -Yes! So here it is guys.  Even though I originally wore this look when it was actually warm outside, don’t be surprised if you see these shorts in the near future.

There are several ways to get away with wearing shorts in the cold months.  Pairing shorts with blazers, chunky sweaters, a fun pair of tights and over-the-knee boots or heels are easy ways to keep you warm and you could end up looking like a walking fashion statement.

Denim shorts are probably the easiest to style because you probably already have a pair or two already in your closet.  However, you should also consider shorts with heavier fabrics such as wool, leather, tweed, corduroy or brocade.

As always my goal is to inspire you to dress outside the box and to help you get over dreading getting dressed.  Before I go, check out this ‘shorts in fall’ look I did last year.  I wouldn’t suggest you wear it if I hadn’t done it myself -  see HERE.

Street Style Approved: Socks + Heels

Atlanta personal stylist, Melodie Stewart, Top Atlanta blogger

As a black girl growing up, I can remember wearing the frilly ruffle ankle socks with my Sunday church shoes.  And don’t let it be Christmas, Easter, a special event or a program at school. That’s when mom pulled out the big fancy ruffled socks.  It’s almost funny to think that I can still pull off this old fashion style combo, but with heels.  Whomever thought to introduce this trend into adulthood is brilliant and creative (and I wish I’d thought of it first.)

Although Fall is officially here doesn’t mean you have to put away your summer heels.  This is the perfect time to stretch your summer heels into the cooler months.  Pairing your cutest heeled sandal with socks issa look.

The great thing about this trend is that you can rock a fancy sock, a colored sock, knee-length socks, ankle socks, socks with patterns or a plain white tube sock if you want.  The point is socks with heels is a bold fashion statement and a great way to be a little more adventurous with your style.

Are you into the socks + heels trend?  Comment about it below.

*I’ve also included pics of a few other times I’ve played around with this trend below.

I Hosted A Shopping Party. It Didn't Go As Planned. Here's What I Learned.

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Black and white street style, Atlanta style blogger, Shoedazzle, Justfabe, Shein

As a style blogger, I'm constantly adding new pieces to my wardrobe.  And to keep my closets from looking like I belong on the show Hoarders, I purge.  So I had this crazy idea to host a shopping party.  Not just any shopping party, but a shop the blogger's closet shopping party.  I thought it would be really cool to gather up a few bloggers from the Atlanta area, setup a boutique styled space and let the public come to shop their heart's out or at least until their money ran out.  Well things didn't go quite as I had planned.

Top (old) -- Forever21 // Distressed Skinny Jeans -- ShoeDazzle // Brogues (sold out) -- ShoeDazzle (other options below) // Backpack (sold out) -- SheIn // Sunglasses -- Mall Kiosk (other options below)

As I'm sure most events go, things almost never go 100% the way it was envisioned or planned.  While I won't get into all the things that went 'wrong', I will say that I will probable never host a brunch again!  The blogger's closet shopping party, Yes!  Just not the brunch...

Saturday's event taught me to push pass the point of disappointment.  To overlook what I can't control.  To get over the feelings of failure.  I learned that in order to get to the top I'm going to have to take risks.  If I'm going to be great, I'll have to kick my comfort zone to the curb.

Black And White Is Hands Down The Best Color Combo... Ever!

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Atlanta Style Blogger, Black and White Street Style, Target Style, Fringe Heels, Black Blogger

I don't care what anybody says, black and white together in practically any combination is Bombtastic!!! It's such a timeless classic combo that when wore together screams bold, chic, sophistication and style.  The nice part about mixing these two colors together is that you don't have to be a fashion guru to get it right.

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Atlanta Style Blogger, Black and White Street Style, Target Style, Fringe Heels, Black Blogger

Now that we are officially in summer, I wanted to make sure my look faired well among the colorful hues of the season.  Any other time, I would have mix printed the heck out of this skirt, but instead settled on a more subtle look.  Wanting the skirt to be the main attraction, I layered with the solid colors of the vest and blouse from Target.  Both pieces accented the stripes in the skirt nicely.

It was only right that I finish off the look with this matching black and cream satchel bag from ShoeDazzle (bad news, it's sold out) and fringed heels from JustFab (sold out)  Today's outfit post is what I'd like to call corporate chic.  What say ye?  What is your take on the black and white trend?

Striped Shirt Dress + Red Boots

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Atlanta Stylist, Atlanta style blogger, Shirt dress, Red boots

Happy first day of December!  I posted on IG yesterday that the forecast for 2017 is 100% chance of WINNING! (tweet if you agree)

I was at the register about to check out when I saw this shirt in the men's section and I grabbed it up in hopes that it would fit and as you can tell it did.  The one person who I thought would have frowned at it actually tried to rip it off of me (I love my hubs.)  Someone once told me I was underrated.  Honestly that made me smile and I started to realize that my talent and ambition would make room for me.

Style Tip: one way to maximize your wardrobe is by adding items that can be worn a number of ways.  So maybe the next time I wear this dress, I'll add a blazer or bomber jacket with some oxfords, maybe.  How would you refashion this shirt-dress?

Why do we allow society's standards of what looks good to determine how we express ourselves through style?  Just because I'm petite (okay small) doesn't mean that all my clothes have to be tight and/or short.  And just because you may be pleasantly plump doesn't mean you have to dress like Mother Teresa either.  One thing to keep in mind, you should dress for your shape instead of your size.

Ergo the days where we actually follow "style rules".  Take the style trend monochrome, this trend can be styled by anybody in any number of ways.  Black and white is my all time favorite color combo.  And when mixed together your look can be simple and chic or elaborate and bold.  Today we're bring 3 different variations of this fun trend.

Hey guys!  It's kinda been a while since I last posted.  Although I've been pretty busy lately, but I still could have found time to check in with you.  Now I'm going to be real transparent and tell you why...

I was going to quit. Yep, just give up!  Why?  Because I wasn't seeing the results that I'd hope to see.  Living in a microwave society where patience is rarely a virtue, I thought that by now I would be this grandiose, extraordinary, bomb stylist/style blogger.  But life has a way of teaching you a valuable lesson.  NOTHING worthwhile comes without a price. (tweet this if you believe this)

After about a month of trying to give up and wallowing in self pity, I decided that enough was enough.  I had to reaffirm myself that I was qualified and that I have what it takes and I will be successful in my craft.  The same goes for you!!!  You are the best at what you do.

I'd like to shout out my husband, Robert for always having my back even when he has no idea what I'm talking about.  I'd like to thank my sister/friend Kisha Rose for talking some sense back into me.  I'd also like to thank all the other females that I admire for paving the way for me.  Last, I thank you, for stopping by my corner of the universe and listening to my mini soapbox speech.

Black Dress + White Sneakers

black dress, white sneakers, gold accessories, black white sunglasses, forever21, street style, natural hair fashion, Atlanta Stylist, Style blogger, Atlanta blogger, athleisure, Black blogger, black girl magic, street fashion

Well...  I cannot even begin to tell you how this past week and a half has been for me.  I feel like I've been running none stop since mid February.  Aaannddd you wouldn't believe what happened to me two Thursday's ago

I was in a minor car accident.  Yep my first car accident since I've been driving.  My car was damaged and I've been driving around in a rental car, which sucks!  Anywho enough about that....

Now that we're on the cusp of spring, I'm starting to transition my wardrobe from winter to spring.  Incorporating your winter pieces into your spring wardrobe can quickly give your style a fresh feel.  If styled properly.  I originally bought this dress in the fall.  Although the dress has short sleeves, I thought of several ways to style this dress that could easily take me through all 4 seasons.

Here's

how I styled it a few months back while in New York.  By adding layers I was able to create a stylish look all while attempting to stay warm.

With the weather starting to warm up, I switched up the look just a tad.  I went with the athleisure street style.  Have you ever thought about wearing sneakers with a dress just to give your look a more playful touch?  You should try it sometime.

Before you get to the pics below, I've got something to tell you, but promise not to tell my thrifting buddies.... Let it be our little secret.  Okay here goes!  This look is completely NOT thrifted!!!!! Not a single item.  Although I've been thrifting since my teens, the past few years I've only shopped at thrift stores.  For whatever reason I refused to shop retail – crazy right?  Now I shop almost anywhere, mainly because I’m a shopaholic.  I even like grocery shopping.

Are you ready for spring?  What spring trends are you most excited about?  Let's talk about it below.
