Obsession Alert: Oversized Neon Sweater

Top Atlanta Blogger, Atlanta Personal Stylist, Neon Sweater, melodiestewart.com

I am so glad I found this sweater before I went on my shopping hiatus. Although I probably would have found some “logical” reason to buy it regardless.  I absolutely adore this lime colored oversized sweater.  The only down side is that I wish I’d gotten the hot pink version of this sweater as well.

This bright over the top sweater has been a fashion fave of mine ever since it arrived in the mail.  Everything about this sweater speaks to me, from the vibrant color to its bulky size (which hides my muffin top wonderfully well).  Off camera I’ve worn this sweater a number of times, however, check out the other two times I’ve worn this sweater for the blog – this monochrome look and this socks and heels look

For today’s look, I went the athleisure route with these Adidas leggings.  Instead of wearing sneakers, I opted for white booties and finished the ensemble with this distressed denim jacket. Btw, you’ll see this sweater on the blog again real soon. And if you don’t mind, tell me in the comments, which look is your fave.

I'm Still A Fan Of The Athleisure Trend And You Should Be Too!

Melodie Stewart Personal Stylist, Athleisure Trend 2018, Top Atlanta blogger

My style is ever evolving.  Like what I didn't like a year ago, all of a sudden I now have two of.  Yet the one style that has followed me from my younger years to now is my fondness for the sporty look.

Athletic wear seems to be a staple in almost everyone's closet now-a-days.  Think about it, how many women (and men) do you encounter each day wearing a pair of leggings, a sports bra or some form of work out gear?  As I right this post I'm giggling just a little because I'm thinking about what my husband says whenever he sees a women wearing workout clothes.  "I bet half of the people wearing gym clothes aren't even working out, they're only wearing it for fashion".  In my case he's right.  These Adidas joggers have never seen the inside of a gym.

When I say you need to become a fan of Athleisure, you really should.  Dressing up a pair of joggers or opting for sneakers instead of heels (like I did in this look) is not only cute it's comfortable and easy to style.  For this look I traded the usual t-shirt for this red stripped button down and I choose these black and white block heeled sandals in place of sneakers.  I completed the look with my fave clutch and a long tasseled necklace.

This trend doesn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon, besides it's super easy to pull off.  Aside from the leggings and sneakers, try adding other sporty elements like a sports bra, a sweat shirt or pants.  Bascially Athleisure is a mix of casual everyday were and gym wear that works well when you're traveling, date night, girl night out or just because you want to.

What are your thought of this trend?  Have you worn it before?  If not, you should definitely try it.

Camo Pants That Are Worth Repeating

Atlanta personal stylist, Top Atlanta blogger, Camo street style

Once upon a time there was a young lady (me) who would have never been caught wearing something twice, especially if the look was captured on the gram.  I mean, where day do dat at (in my slang voice, cause I'm cool like that)?  But then one day this young lady woke up and realized that that was the most craziest thing ever.  She understood that she was being uppity for no good reason and remembered she didn't have the closet of Rihanna.  After all what sense did it make to buy something I obviously liked only to wear it once?  Cray, right?

After I got over the "Repeat Outfit Offender" syndrome, I gained a better appreciation for my clothes and became more focused on making the most of my wardrobe.  While I very rarely repeat a look, I do wear items over and over.  I've said this before and I'll say it again for the people in the back.  When considering adding pieces to your wardrobe, before you buy it, envision at least 3-4 different ways to style that item with pieces you already have in your closet.  The goal is to maximize your wardrobes full potential, not to become a hoarder.  Maximizing your wardrobe means mixing and matching pieces that you already have to create different looks.

Take these camo pants for instance.  This look is my 8th (or 9th) time styling these fatigues and each time I've replaced one or two pieces from the previous look to create a whole other outfit. Here are two good examples of the rare occasions when I've worn AND been photographed in the same look; the difference between the two is for the first look, I wore floral print block heels and paired it with a mixed print clutch.  Yet for the second look, I opted for flatform shoes and accessorized with a leopard print belt.  You see that with only a few subtle changes, you can create different looks with pieces you already have.  So you know I have to ask, which look is your fave?

Just in case you're curious about the other ways I've styled these pants >>> Go HERE!!!  And last but not least, you can follow my style journey on Instagram -- @thestyleklazit.

This Multi-Color Statement Sequin Duster

This Multi-Color Statement Sequin Duster, Atlanta Personal Stylist

For starters thrifting is magical and I owe it to my cousin who introduced me to the world of resale shopping many years ago.  It wasn't until I got older that I really started to appreciate all that thrifting had to offer.  I'm pretty sure that even after I became a millionaire, I'm still going to find my way to a thrift shop.

A few months ago (while co-hosting a thrift shopping event with Keren of Thrifting Atlanta) I'm walking around perusing the rows of varies vendors, telling myself - girl you better not go over your $50 budget.  For the most part my shopping budget is between $50 - $100 dollars.  Now if I see something that I "have to have" and I've reached my limit, I'll ask the Mr. for a "small" contribution.

Let me get back on track here.... so I walk past this one particular clothes vendor (Mobile Style Stop Boutique) and notice this colorful shiny garment hanging on the rack.  I approach the garment, but paused as it was in the XL section.  Bomber!  Guys, can you believe I actually walked away from it?!?! I didn't even bother trying it on (which btw, you should always do a try-on session).

Somehow I ended up back at the rack and for the heck of it, tried it on..................  It fit!!! OMG it fit!!!! I couldn't believe my luck.  Mind you I'd seen this same duster last year selling for a lot more that what I'd paid for mine.  After doing the most by sashaying around the event, I quickly paid for my favorite piece.  This duster cost me half my budget, yet it was totally worth it.  Afterwards I went back to telling myself - girl you better not go over your new budget of $25, lol.

What makes this piece so amazing is that it has pockets.  I know! I know!  Pockets just make everything else in the world bearable.  Most people would have probably worn something black, but instead of going dark, I decided on an all white approach.  Pairing my fave pair of JustFab white distressed jeans (currently sold out, but these white jeans from H&M are super cute) with this Adidas top (worn HERE + similar option) was the perfect combo of both street and chic.  S/o to my friend for reminding me that I had these criss-crossed gold mules from ShoeDazzle (sorry ya'll they are sold out in all 3 colors) adding the right amount of cute this look needed.

I hope this look inspires you to think a little outside the box.  Even if you don't have a sequin duster, a colorful blazer or kimono would work equally as well.  But if you do want one, I've found a few sequin duster's for you to consider.

What I'm Wearing To The World Natural Hair Show + I'm Teaching A Thrift Style Workshop

World Natural Hair Show, Top Atlanta blogger

Happy Fabulous Friday people!  I am so ready for this weekend.  Can you guess why?  I gave a little hint in the title of this post.  Tomorrow is THE DAY that I get to facilitate a thrifting workshop at the 21st World Natural Hair Show presented by Taliah Waajid

My style session is tomorrow from 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm in Classroom: Italian 1-2 (tickets).  I think because I'm so hype about it that I'm not even nervous (at least not yet).  I actually feel really good about the workshop tomorrow.  I still can't believe it.  This is the biggest platform I've been on so far.  And I'm so grateful that God allowed somebody to think about me for this opportunity.  All smiles as I write this post!!!!!!

You already know that my look has to be bang'n right?  And of course it has to be thrifted, duh!  I've been thinking about what to wear every since I got the call.  And after going back and forth with myself, I decided to repeat a look that I absolutely loved the first time I wore it.  The first time I wore this look was at Atlanta designer Natt Taylor's pop up shop a few weeks ago.

And to think a couple of years ago I would never be caught wearing the same thing twice. Girl what?!?!  Especially if I got photographed in a look.  No ma'am, Pam!  But baby, I'll be 40 in a few weeks and things like not repeating an outfit is cray cray!.  I'm at a place now where I don't even care anymore.  Which is why I'll be wearing this exact look tomorrow.  The only thing I'm changing is my undergarments and my hair will probably be different.

My favorite part of this look is the bright yellow ruffle skirt I picked up from vintage shop Ecologie in Kennesaw, GA (It's a bit of a drive, but it's worth it).  My skirt is thrifted, however this ASOS satin pleated midi skirt with hanky hem is super dope and so cute and you should get it.  Guys, I've said it once and I'll say it again, Zara is the real MVP when it comes to shoes.  I would suggest not waiting to get a shoe you really like, their inventory goes quick.  These white brogues are no longer available.

Well style lover's do me a fave... Send up a prayer that all goes well tomorrow and that something awesome comes from the experience.  Appreciate it and ttyl!

Style Collaboration with Michael Anthony of @TheBigFashionGuy

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Thebigfashionguy, Plussize fashion, Atlanta style bloggers, black bloggers, TCFStyle Expo

It's Friday and I'm doing my happy dance.  What about you?  Aside from a Thrifted Brunch hosted by Keren of Thrifting Atlanta this Sunday, my weekend should be pret-ty low key.

A few weeks ago I attended The Curvy Fashionista's TCFStyle Expo (recap here) and one of my favoritest (made up word) male bloggers / IG'ers was going to be in town for the expo.  And of course a collab was required.  Before I go any further, let me introduce to some and present to other --- drum rollllllll --- Michael-Anthony Spearman of The Big Fashion Guy.

Although Michael says he's my fan, it's really the other way around.  I actually started following him first.  Oh! Wait!! Before I forget.  Please! Please! Please! Make sure you're following his equally fabulous boo-thang, Lissa Mathieu of I Am Plus.

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Thebigfashionguy, Plussize fashion, Atlanta style bloggers, black bloggers, TCFStyle Expo

Okay, getting back on track.  Since Michael was going to be in Atlanta, we thought it would be fun to get in front of the same camera lens for a couple looks.  Needless to say we only managed to get in this one look.  The style expo had us both running all over the place.

And just in case you noticed, my look was taken in two different locations.  The reason why is that we used a photographer that wasn't use to taking street style pics; and truthfully, I didn't like how some of out photos came out.  So I just re-did the look when I shot with my photographer Kaylin.

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Thebigfashionguy, Plussize fashion, Atlanta style bloggers, black bloggers, TCFStyle Expo

My look comes in just under $40.  The top and the clutch was thrifted and the Adidas pants were a mother's day gift from my son (really my husband).  The shoes are from Aldo's (old) but I got on sale for about $30.  The glasses are from some mall kiosk.

Michael-Anthony is sporting Levi's (DIY distressed) jeans with a Perry Ellis vest and Henley shirt from Old Navy.  The hat is a Stacy Adams banded fedora.  And it's only fitting that we walk in style together in a pair of Aldo shoes.

Burgundy Moto + Adidas Joggers

The Style Klazit, Melodie Stewart, athleisure street style, Atlanta style blogger, moto jacket, adidas joggers

Earlier this year I was all the way up in the NYC for a ShoeDazzle meetup and stopped by Forever21 for a little retail therapy.  Not long after arriving my homegirl Kisha Rose comes up to me like OMG, look what I found... she holds up this burgundy moto jacket.  You know I went looking for it and to my dismay, they didn't have another one in my size.  I had forgotten all about the jacket when Kisha call's to let me know they had them online.  I go online to order it and they didn't have my size either.  I called customer service and they told me that a store near me had one in my size.  I called that store to ask them to hold my size and they told me they didn't have them.  I was once again bombed, so I did as I always do when I'm sad... SHOP!  I go to the F21 store that supposedly didn't have them and lo and behold up on the wall was the jacket (several of them.)  It actually came with a faux fur collar (worn here.) I went with these Adidas joggers in lue of dress pants.

Lace Skirt + Adidas Sneakers

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Atlanta style blogger, Athleisure, Adidas, Atlanta stylist

On days when I kinda want to dress up but then not really, I tend to lean towards the athleisure look.  It functional, yet fashionable.  Gone are the days where sneakers are meant for the gym only.  I decided to dress up my sneakers with this black lace skirt from Plato's Closet, but you can get one from here or here.  Denim/chambray tops should be a staple in your closet.  Actually you should really have more than one, hint-hint.  Besides the thrift store, you can pick one or two up from Old Navy or Forever21.  I added this neon yellow handbag (thrifted) just for the heck of it, lol.  But really accessories just make things better!  Have you given this look a try?  What's your opinion on this trend?

Heeeyyyyy!!!  Where have I been?  Chile, I've been out here trying to get my life...  I told y'all that some great things were about to pop off and I'm making sure that I'm in position.  So what have you been up to?  There's so much I want to tell you, but in due time; don't want my haters messing things up for me.  Sooo...

Are you familiar with the athleisure trend?  It's basically a mixture of leisurewear with sportswear.  And the cool thing is, it's a super easy look to pull off.  Instead of wearing a hoodie and sneakers, for my look I opt'd for a blazer and heels.

Here are a few suggestions that will help you pull off this look successfully.

DO mix and match.  A blazer, which should be a staple in your wardrobe, screams chic and sophistication.  Finishing off your look with a sneaker would completely be a game changer.  Giving your look edge appeal.  See

here

DO accessorize.  Just because you're wearing athletic gear doesn't mean you have to look like you're headed straight to the gym.  More than likely you aren't anyways, oops lol!  Accessories are like herbs and spices.  They give zest and zing to an outfit.

DON'T forget to be creative.  Take one of your fave screen T's, pair it with a cute pencil or fitted skirt and complete your look with the cutest pair of pumps you have.

Black Blazer + Pink Sneakers

style blogger, street style, athleisure, sports inspired, Atlanta blogger, pink sneakers, black blazer, natural hair, black blogger, black girl magic

Life is ironic!  Would you believe me if I told you I was somewhat of a tomboy growing up?  I wore my clothes over-sized and I absolutely despised wearing skirts.  But then...

Then I decided one day while sitting in my college class that I wanted a complete change.  And just like that I went from over-size to the right size.  Seriously, within a month I was wearing fitted jeans and heels.  The irony is that these tennis shoes (as we call them in the south) are my only pair of athletic shoes.  And the only reason why I bought them was for a shopping trip to New York City two years ago.

Have you ever thought about "dressing up" sportswear?  It's super easy to do.  Take my look for instance; adding a black blazer and rolling up the sleeves didn't take much effort at all.  But there are also quite a few other ways in which you can pull off the athleisure style.  Instead of sneakers, you can take a sporty looking dress or over-sized t-shirt and pair it with some long boots or booties. A sweatshirt and some pumps would be really cute.  You could even put on some yoga pants, sneakers, crop top and a moto jacket.  These are just a few ways to pull of this style.

You don't always have to be in heels and dressed to the gawds.  Being stylish comes in many forms.  I've said this many times, step outside the box and wear something you wouldn't ordinarily wear.  What new style do you think you'll try this week?  Drop a line below and let's talk about it.

Black Dress + White Sneakers

black dress, white sneakers, gold accessories, black white sunglasses, forever21, street style, natural hair fashion, Atlanta Stylist, Style blogger, Atlanta blogger, athleisure, Black blogger, black girl magic, street fashion

Well...  I cannot even begin to tell you how this past week and a half has been for me.  I feel like I've been running none stop since mid February.  Aaannddd you wouldn't believe what happened to me two Thursday's ago

I was in a minor car accident.  Yep my first car accident since I've been driving.  My car was damaged and I've been driving around in a rental car, which sucks!  Anywho enough about that....

Now that we're on the cusp of spring, I'm starting to transition my wardrobe from winter to spring.  Incorporating your winter pieces into your spring wardrobe can quickly give your style a fresh feel.  If styled properly.  I originally bought this dress in the fall.  Although the dress has short sleeves, I thought of several ways to style this dress that could easily take me through all 4 seasons.

Here's

how I styled it a few months back while in New York.  By adding layers I was able to create a stylish look all while attempting to stay warm.

With the weather starting to warm up, I switched up the look just a tad.  I went with the athleisure street style.  Have you ever thought about wearing sneakers with a dress just to give your look a more playful touch?  You should try it sometime.

Before you get to the pics below, I've got something to tell you, but promise not to tell my thrifting buddies.... Let it be our little secret.  Okay here goes!  This look is completely NOT thrifted!!!!! Not a single item.  Although I've been thrifting since my teens, the past few years I've only shopped at thrift stores.  For whatever reason I refused to shop retail – crazy right?  Now I shop almost anywhere, mainly because I’m a shopaholic.  I even like grocery shopping.

Are you ready for spring?  What spring trends are you most excited about?  Let's talk about it below.
