A Denim On Denim Look Inspired by Style Maven Rihanna

Denim on denim street style, Top Atlanta Blogger, Atlanta Personal Stylist, melodiestewart.com

I have a handful of style muses whose style speaks to my creativity and Rihanna is one of them. Her style is hands down iconic. She can wear a trash bag and make it look high fashion. Today’s look is inspired by Bad girl Ri Ri.

A few years ago a picture of Rihanna hit the internet of her wearing an all denim look. I never thought to recreate that look until now. But for my rendition of the look, I decided to wear my denim top backwards.

I opted for heels (for photo opt purposes only) and this thrifted neon yellow mini messenger bag for my accessories.

Are there any celebrities whose style you absolutely love? Have you thought about recreating a look you’ve seen a celebrity wear? Drop me a line in the comments, I’m always looking for style inspiration.

Another Look From This Red Striped Shirt

This shirt owes me nothing! I’m a thrifter at heart, but from time to time I do shop retail. After a little hesitation to buy this shirt I gave in. I didn’t want to rely on the thrift gawds to gift me something similar. Glad I didn’t

I think this look is probably my favorite, maybe because I decided to leave a few of the top buttons unbuttoned (being fast). My second fave look wearing this red striped shirt is very similar to this look.

But check out the other time I wore it, like with a pair of polka dotted jeans or this red monochromed look. I also mixed it some Adidas joggers for an athleisurewear look.

How are you re-wearing some of your favorite pieces? Drop a line in the comment and let’s chat about it.

Street Style: The Suit Trend

melodiestewart.com, Top Atlanta blogger, Street style, Suit Trend

I’d just like to send out a big thanks to the person who donated this houndstooth plaid skirt suit to Goodwill. You’re the real MVP, whomever you are.

Guys, the number one item on my thrift wish list is a pant suit. I’ve been desiring a pant suit for the longest time, but coming up on this vintage green suit is the next best thing. This skirt suit is giving me “Clueless” vibes. And after more than 20 years since the movie dropped, this fashion moment is still poppin.

What’s cool about this blazer set is that I can wear it so many different ways. In today post I'm wearing it with a screen-tee and two-tone booties. However, switching out the blazer or the skirt allows me to create different looks allowing me to get the biggest bang for my buckets.

What are your thoughts on the suit trend? I'm not giving up on finding the perfect pant suit, yet this skirt suit now has a special place in my heart.

What To Wear To Work

melodiestewart.com, work wear street style, what to wear to work

Hope your weekend was full of funners and relaxation. For me, losing an hour this weekend has gotten me all out of sorts. I mean what’s the purpose of daylight savings time anyway? Either way guys, Happy Monday!

If I’m being honest, I haven’t “dressed up” for work in a long while. I’m just not motivated to put my best foot forward in the wardrobe department 5 days a week. Basically dressing up for work just isn’t fun any more. At this point being comfortable is my goal (meaning jeans, a decent top and a cute pair of shoes).

Now if for some reason I had a desire to slay my co-workers with a cute office chic look, today’s look would be something I’d wear. A blazer (a closet staple that EVERYONE should have in their wardrobe) is an instant outfit game changer, paired with a solid (or print, if you’re feeling frisky) top is simple and easy to wear. With spring around the corner the weather is slowly starting to warm up and this means you’ll see me wearing more skirts, like this thrifted skirt from Asos. What you won’t see more of is me in super high heels like these old turquoise heels I scored from ShoeDazzle many moons ago. Anywho, maybe one day I’ll get back to dressing up for work (or not)!

I Accidentally Took The Week Off Of Social Media

Atlanta Personal Stylist, Top Atlanta Blogger, African inspired street style

Hello, my name is Melodie and I’m addicted to social media, Instagram to be precise. They say the first step to overcoming an addiction is to first admit you have a problem and then to seek treatment.

As much as I might pretend that I’m unbothered whenever I’m scrolling down my IG feed, the lie detector determine I wasn’t being totally truthful. Social media whether you think so or not can make you feel inadequate and if you’re not careful you might even question your entire existence. Okay so maybe that’s a little farfetched, but you get my drift.

Don’t get me wrong, social media is wonderful.  It’s a great platform to express yourself and to showcase to the world your gifts, talents and skills.  It has also allowed careers to take off, unimaginable opportunities have been received, even a few people have met the love of their lives via social.  But at what point is enough, enough?

If you would’ve told me 4 years ago when I posted my first IG pic that I’d get sucked into this endless portal of follows, likes and comments, I would have rolled my eyes and laughed at you.  Little did I know….  I had it so bad that my phone was the first thing I reached for in the morning.  Not to check the time or the weather, but to see what I missed on IG and FB.  Sad!

When I say I accidentally took a week off from social, it was more on purpose than I realized.  I’d gotten overwhelmed with trying to keep up with the analytics, making sure I was consistent (because consistency is king, right) and other people’s IG version of success.  I’m being honest here.  I couldn’t take it, so I decided I wasn’t going to post until I felt like it.

In recent years I’ve come to realized that I’d been subconsciously comparing my life with a bunch of square pictures that have been perfectly curated to appear that life is cotton candy and unicorns.  Which is why taking a break was so needed.  And going forward I’ll be making a conscience effort to step away more often.  The goal will be to detach myself from unrealistic or untimely expectations of myself.  To stay focused on my own goals and to make the most of my time.  The main reason is to break the cycle of comparing my chapter 15 to someone else’s chapter 32.

Have you ever thought about the amount of time you spend scrolling down IG or FB?  Your phone has (or should have) the capability to tell you which app you use the most and depending on the type of phone you have can tell you the average amount of time you spend on the app. My phone tells me I spend a lot of time on the gram with Facebook right on it’s heels.

What say ye?  Are you guilty of falling into the the social trap? Could you challenge yourself to detox from social media?  For me it was a week; but next time it may be a month. Let me know in the comments.

When I look back over my style history, I've changed.  But that's the beauty of style.  "Fashion you can buy, but style you possess. The key to style is learning who you are, which takes years. There's no how-to road map to style. It's about self expression and, above all, attitude." - Iris Apfel

This is vacation week for me and my fam.  We usually take a family vaca every year, but this year my parents, my brother and his fam and both my sister's and their family's will soak up the sun in Florida.  Aaanndd my 20 year old decided she wanted to hang as well; but I hope she leaves her attitude in Georgia because I'm not here for it!!! Something else that's new this time around is... I actually finished packing for hubs, baby boy and myself all before 12:30 am.  Normally I'm not finished packing until around 4:00 am the morning of the trip.  My wardrobe for this trip is a little different.  Most of what I packed are things my husbands likes but I never wear.  You can catch me on IG and maybe Snapchat for my #ootd's.

Change is good!  It's a prerequisite for improvement.  Not changing can cause you to be comfortable and a comfort zone, albeit a nice place, is not fertile ground for growth.  I said all that to say that I am about to make some major modifications in the near future.  Hang around you'll see.  *Drops Mic.......

Okay so this post is going to be short and sweet, because my laptop won't let me be great (ughhh!!!!) Now-a-days I'm finding that I just don't like wearing heels as much as I use to and it's just so easy and effortless to put on a pair of sandals.  Here's were the sneaker comes in.  A sneaker adds a certain dopeness to a skirt or a dress, basically it can take your look from blah to boom.  Try adding a colorful sneaker to a black and white outfit or a converse to a mini.  How about a wedge sneaker with a knee length leather skirt?  You could even add a dope pair of ankle socks just for the fun of it.

Whats your opinion on the sneaker-skirt trend?  Let me know below or email me,

Happy Thursday people!  It's almost the weekend and I'm ready to grab it by the horns.  Speaking of horns, this is Taurus season (doing a little dance).  Can you guess why I'm so happy?

My birthday is next month - Cinco de Mayo or the 5th of May.  I don't plan on doing much because it's not really a milestone year, plus I'm not that big on shindigs.  May is also my blogs 3rd birthday.  I really can't believe how far I've come to have had no clue about what I was doing in the beginning.  Can't wait to see what's to come.

Would you guess that I was a tomboy growing up?  All the way up to my first year in college.  When one day while sitting in class, I just decided that I wanted a change; I was going to tap into my feminine side.  But every now an then, I like to revert back to my tomboyish looks.  I just know now how to add some girlpower magic to the style.  What do you think, have you ever thought about menswear inspired fashion?

Bubble Gum Pink Blazer + Gold Caged Heels

Atlanta style blogger, style blogger, Atlanta blogger, Atlanta stylist, Forever21, pink blazer, Midi skirt, Gold heels, caged heels, gold accessories, Style style, black bloggers, black girls rock, black girls killing it, Style influencer, Atlanta stylist, natural hair fashion, Atlanta street fashion

Hey y'all!  Hope your day is off to a productive start.  I plan on making the most of this Thursday.  And this weather in the "A" is wonderful.  Not to hot, just the right amount of breeze.  This is the type of weather for short shorts and skirts.  Can I tell you something?

This is

Your

time!  You are where you are for a reason!  Now make the  most of it!!

Would you believe me if I told you that I hated the color pink?  Growing up I was sooo anti pink.  It was such a girly color and I was far from girly.  Give me a pair of baggy jeans and an over-sized shirt and I was good.  Funny thing now, is that I'm starting to like this ol' girly color.

When it comes to my wardrobe and my personal style preference, I like to mix things up.  I'm not sure if I even have a signature look.  I pretty much wear what I want.  Have you been envisioning yourself in looks that you feel aren't you?  What's keeping you from at least trying it out?  Even as a stylist, I used to have moments of body envy.  I see what looks good on other people and I'm like, I would never look that good in something like that.  But I wouldn't know if I don't try it on?  As a young child my mother use to tell me, "Try it, You might like it."  If you're toying with the idea of a new look; Play On, by friend, play on!

Drop a line below or email me (

Flannel Duster + OTK Boots

Atlanta blogger, style blogger, Atlanta style blogger, black girl killing it, flannel duster, white dress, OTK boots, black boots, street style, blogger style

I'm starting to take more outfit risks.  I use to be hesitate about revealing my body, mainly because of my religious upbringing.  I was taught that a lady should always cover up and that her body is for her husband.  Therefore showing off these mini thick thighs, is a NO-NO!!!!  If my old Pastor could see me now....  But!  I was also a little renegade, so today I'm giving you a little thigh action...

About a year ago, I started being uninspired by my wardrobe.  I really was getting to a point where I couldn't find anything to wear.  I'm sure you've been there before, where you just stand in your closet looking for an outfit to jump out at you.  Whenever, I get stump on what to wear, I start from the bottom - shoes.  Once I decide my shoe mood, I build my look from there.

When I ordered these boots, I had no idea how I was going to style them.  Honestly, the only reason I got them is because my husband liked them.  He says I never dress sexy for him.  And the fact that I'm short and petite; I tend to shy away from anything that I feel would make me look even shorter.  An-t-wayz, the first time I wore this dress (

here

), I styled it with socks and sandals.  In order to winterize this dress, I added this flannel dress turned duster.  The OTK (over-the-knee) boots were worn to protect my legs from the elements.  Now that the weather is warming up in Hot-lanta, I'm starting to think of other ways to style this dress.

Do you have any suggestions about the next way I should style this dress?  Drop a line below and let's discuss it.  You never know, I may end up taking your style advise.  Holla!!!

3 Incredible Easy Ways To Mix Prints Like A Pro

mixed prints, Atlanta blogger, style blogger, blogger, black blogger, street style, spring fashion, Atlanta style blogger

In just a few days, my favorite season officially begins – SPRING!!!!!!  What I love most about spring are the longer days, warmer weather aanndd the assortment of colors.  Although I wear bright colors throughout the year, this time of year is when I really throw caution to the wind and indulge in colors and prints.  But if you follow me on IG (follow here), then you already knew that mixing prints is sorta my thang.  So if you've ever thought about trying out this trend, but didn’t have a clue where to start?  Well Miss Lady, I got you...

So you're ready to get your feet wet with mixing prints?!  For a beginner, your first step is to start off with mixing colors not prints.  I would suggest starting off with black and white.  You can't really go wrong with this color combo.  A little polka dot top hear with maybe a stripe bottom or a floral bottom in combination with a plaid or even tribal print top.  Any two of the same shade of color would do, just make sure that the colors are balanced.

I Am Necole

Are you ready for the next step?  Good!  Now let's wade a little further out into the deep.  Next you can start playing with different prints that share the same color or shade.  When you keep the colors in the same family, this helps to make sure that the prints aren't competing against each other.  So even if the prints are different the colors with bring the look together.

The Style Kläzit

Alright, you still with me?  Okay!  Now you're ready for the big leagues.  Mixing bold patterns with low contrast patterns can seem tricky; but completely doable.  Just make sure to scale each piece accordingly.  So if your top is colorful, your bottom can contain at least two of the colors in the top.  Or your look can contain two of the same patterns/prints but in different colors.  Mixing two or three different prints/patterns is completely fine, just as long as the colors compliment each other.  The objective is to create a bold statement without being overly busy.

BitterSweet Colours

Here's a bonus tip for you...  If you're not ready to plunge into mixing prints with you clothes, start small.  Mix matching your accessories, such a handbag, a belt, a scarf or a hat.  Even your shoes can be used to create a print mix look.  Sounds like fun.  Are you ready to start mixing and matching today?
