That Time The Event Decorator Caught Me Naked!!!

Black Married Couple, Happily Married Couple, Atlanta Couples

I’m sure you’re probably wondering what my husband has to do with me getting caught naked. Well boys and girls gather around, it’s (true) story time.  Once you read what happens, I’d like to know what you would have done in my shoes…

**Disclaimer: This post is a lot longer than I normal, but I think you'll find it a funny read!

Atlanta Style Blogger, Top Atlanta Blogger, Top Black Blogger

Before I get started, let me just say that in exactly 3 months, the mister and I will celebrate 9 years of marriage.  I can’t believe how overly excited I am considering I never wanted to get married.  However, this guy walked into my life 15 years ago and forever changed it, but that’s another story for another post.  Back to how I got caught in my birthday suit (sorta).

Last month my Pastors hosted a gala in celebration of their 80th birthday along with being in ministry for 30 years.  Of course it was formal, which meant I needed to find something grandiose to wear.  What I had in mind was not what hubs had in mind.  Normally boo thang doesn’t mind what I wear, however, this time he wanted to see me in something formal (because formal and I aren’t cool like that).

Although I agreed to wear something he liked, he stipulated it by saying that it couldn’t be thrifted (bummer).  Well then, if it can't be thrifted I guess you’re buying me a dress (he said okay).  Now I love to shop yet I dislike looking for anything specific.  After going to a few stores between two separate malls and I still didn’t find anything liked.

I took to online shopping (which I didn’t want to do, because I needed to try on whatever I chose).  I remembered hearing something about Rent the Runway, but the gentleman was unimpressed.  Next up, Asos.  Several scrolls in, Hubs saw this ASOS RED CARPET Scuba Midi Dress and his face lite up.  I was so hoping that he’d light up like this at another dress, not so.

When the dress came and I tried it on, I knew right away that I was going to have to tame my mom gut.  This meant I had to buy a shapewear.  Once I tried it on, I should have known something was amiss.

*Sidebar – I wish I had time to tell you the story about how I sent the dress to be altered and didn’t get it back until the night before the event, but that’s another post.

Fast forward to the evening of the event.  Sir was extra eager to see me in this dress.  Oh! I failed to mention that I needed help with the entire process of getting dressed.  I had a new strapless that was really difficult to put on (don’t ask), then the shapewear may as well had been sized for a toddler.

Once I got the foundation pieces on, it was time for the dress.  With a little resistance, we got the dress zipped up.  At this point, I felt like a pig wrapped in a blanket.  Everything was tight to the 1oth degree.  And comfort escaped me the entire night.  My attire was so fitted, I couldn’t even eat all my food.

As the night progressed, my outfit became increasingly intolerable.  The pressure around my sternum was too much.  Once the dancing portion of the event started and hubs preformed all his signature moves, I signaled that I needed to get out of the dress, shapewear and bra immediately!

***HERE COMES THE GOOD PART***

While the party was happening upstairs, I figured I’d go downstairs so no one would see that I’d changed my clothes.  And since I needed help getting into the ensemble, I also needed help getting out as well.  So we get to the social hall and noticed the event decorator and an employee cleaning up from the pre-party.  I paid no mind to that.

We get into the restroom and proceed to take off my clothes.  While struggling to get the shapewear off, I tell hubs that he could go back up to the party and I’ll sit in the truck and watch Netflix on my phone (I didn’t want to be a party pooper).  With the dress and the shapewear were off, I had to allow my insides to readjust back to normal.

Hubs had just walked out the restroom when I remember he had my dress (he was going to let his friend know we were leaving).  I called out to him to ask if he could drop my dress off in the truck before going back upstairs (I didn’t want anyone to know I’d changed).

Still getting my insides together, the door of the restroom opened and in comes the decorator.  Mind you I’m still standing in the restroom with only a strapless bra on.  When my mind registered that it wasn’t my husband, I tried to run into the stall.  In my haste to get into the stall, I ran into the stall door.  Now this would’ve been so bad if there wasn’t a huge mirror on the adjacent wall.

To make matters worse I saw that I’d dropped my underwear on the floor by the sink.  Soooo, you guested it, I ran back to get them.  All the while, I’m yelling I’m so sorry! I’m sorry!  Sorry! Omg, I’m really sorry!  I know she said something, I just don't remember what.  I was too busy apologizing.  Ironically I wasn’t even embarrassed.  The entire incident was more hilarious than anything.

The moral of the story boys and girls is to not allow your husband to talk you into wearing a fitted dress unless you’ve been properly trained on the dangers of wearing a shapewear.

Have you been caught in a similar situation or equeally as funny a situation before.  Let me know!

Black Moto + Floral Print Pumps

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Atlanta Style blogger, windowpane print, black moto, street style

Has anyone ever pointed out something to you that you didn't even notice until they made you aware of it?  Well this is probably one of those times...  In the pic above my sweater is bunched up, see you probably didn't even notice.  But for those who did, I'd gone through a few shots before I noticed that my sweater was jumbled up.  Anywho, I fixed it and keep it moving.

Now if you're located anywhere near Atlanta, you already know that it's way to hot for this look, but I shot it a few weeks ago when the weather permitted.  I almost didn't want to post it, but I was like what the heck it's still cute and I promised you I'd show you option two of this look (check out option 1.) If the weather was still cool, this outfit would totally work.  Mixing prints is an art, but it's really easy.  For this look, I took two patterns that shared the same color scheme to create a cohesive look.  Neat huh?  Now you try it.  Follow and tag me on Facebook or Instagram, I'd love to see what you come up with.

Your Mom's Culottes + Fringe Crossbody

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Atlanta style blogger, Vintage street style, Denim culottes, Wardrobe stylist

Ended up having to bring this little guy with me on location because hubs had to work.  I tip my hat off to mommy bloggers.  Short story, in the middle of my session, he says - Mommy, I have to use the bathroom.  I don't have to do the #1, I have to do the #2... insert head shake and eye rolls!  So now I have to find a restroom.  Fortunately, there was a restaurant near by.  And after a 15 minute delay, I was able to get the this shot completed.  While the look came together as I'd hoped, this is probably the first and last time I'll wear these culottes.  Apparently, between the time I bought them last year and now, my muffin top has expanded to the point that I was losing circulation to the lower part of my body because they are so tight.  So now I'm at a crossroad; do I lose a few pounds in order to nail another look or add them to my boutique?  What say ye?

New Year's Eve: Tuxedo Shirt + Sequin Leggings

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Atlanta style blogger, Atlanta wardrobe stylist

With only a few more days left until the new year,  I'm not even worried about what I'm going to wear to my New Year Eve bash.  But first, how was your holiday?  Mines started off busy, but ended up kinda low-key.  Hubs and I stayed home to spend our first Christmas in our new home and wouldn't you know it, my baby boy (surprisingly) woke up early.  I wonder why?!

Guys! 2017 is going to be A M A Z I N G!!! Instead of going out in a bang, I'm coming in with a Boom...  And what better way to do that then with a banging #ootn.  So we all know that wearing sequins on nye is sorta cliché, but it's also not what you wear but how you wear it.  While some my say to wear sequins with something simple, I decided to be my extra self.  And with that I paired these sequin leggings with a tuxedo shirt and this jewel embellished lapel blazer that was DIY'd by yours truly.  A sexy pump and a clutch and I'm out the door.

Moto Jacket + Summer Dress

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Atlanta style blogger

It's HUMP dayyyy!! Happy Wednesday style lovers.  Can I just say that my hair is E-VER-Y-THANG!!!!  I'd been toying with the idea of doing something different with my hair and finally decided on this tapered cut.

Adding pieces to your wardrobe that can be worn multiple ways is key to maximizing your outfit options.

It's finally "cold" in Atlanta, but I wasn't ready to let my summer wear go.  So I layered this red dotted dress with a white polka dot button-down shirt for a little mixed print action and this Moto jacket from H&M I bought two years ago.  In lieu of tights I wore long socks and booties.  Winterizing your summer wardrobe is definitely a good way to make the most of what you have.  You can do so much more with your summer clothes in the winter.

Here are a few suggestions:

  • Cover your summer dress with a cute sweatshirt

  • Add a turtleneck or button-down shirt under a sleeveless dress

  • Booties with tights and a blazer over a summery summer dress

  • Thick tights under a pair of cutoffs

  • Maxi skirt/dress paired with a hint of fur

  • Layer! Layer! Layer!

Wish List: 5 Must Haves From Shoedazzle This Summer

shoedazzle, stiletto society, the style klazit, Melodie Stewart, brand ambassador

Happy payday lady's (and gents)!  When I tell you that I'm sooo ready for this long weekend, I tried to make Wednesday be Friday.  Now that it is Friday what better way to reward yourself than by a little retail therapy.  After all, retail therapy is the best type of therapy.  Especially when it involves

shoes!  Anybody that knows me, know I LOVE SHOES!!! And being a brand ambassador for

Shoedazzle

doesn't help this slight addiction.  I buy a least one pair of shoes every week.  Like Cinderella, a new pair of shoes can change your life.  I'm a huge fan of

Shoedazzle

, 1 because their selection of  shoes are trendy and stylish and 2 very affordable.  So why not share with you my 5 must have pieces for the summer...

1. I love a good ol' oxford.  It's a great way to dress up your summer work outfits when you're not in the mood for heels -

Lilia

2. Everything seemly comes back around.  Style these 70's inspired platforms with pair of wide legged pants and a off the shoulder top and vuala -

Wylie

3. A distressed denim skirt rather than distressed jeans can definitely be an option for those days when you're just not filling a pair of pants -

Distressed Denim Skirt

4. Long gone are the days when lady's carry purses or pocketbooks.  Now-a-days we carry handbags.

Francios

is chic and comes in a number of colors.

5. For years I've stayed away from a lot of dresses, but this number here is a game changer.  This

off the shoulder knit dress

is stunning.  If only I could decide on a color.

Cream Vest + Gold Metallic Skirt

Every now and again, I try to tap into my girly side.  I think this look sums it up.  From my hair down to my shoes.  I'll say it, even if you don't - I look amazing!  It''s hard to believe that there was a time I would never compliment myself.  You look at me now and might ask, why?  Welllll, since you ask....

One word: Comparison!  I was always comparing my "flaws" against other female "perfections."  Either my booty wasn't big enough or my hair wasn't long enough or my smile was as pretty.  But what I failed to realize was that "Comparison Is The Thief Of Joy."  Although I may not have the flattest stomach or the smoothest skin; I've finally reached a point where I'm in love with myself.  Flaws and all.

Your mind can be your worst enemy.  Stop letting it lie to you!

Why do we allow society's standards of what looks good to determine how we express ourselves through style?  Just because I'm petite (okay small) doesn't mean that all my clothes have to be tight and/or short.  And just because you may be pleasantly plump doesn't mean you have to dress like Mother Teresa either.  One thing to keep in mind, you should dress for your shape instead of your size.

Ergo the days where we actually follow "style rules".  Take the style trend monochrome, this trend can be styled by anybody in any number of ways.  Black and white is my all time favorite color combo.  And when mixed together your look can be simple and chic or elaborate and bold.  Today we're bring 3 different variations of this fun trend.

Getting dressed should be fun or at least it is for me.  There's a million and one opinions on

Goggle

on the subject.  And what works for one person, may not necessarily work for you.   I know for me whenever I'm preparing an outfit, I like to take into consideration 4 things... 1 - The type of event 2 -

The time of day (or night) 3 - The weather and 4 - What can I wear that will cause me to stand out?  Once I answer these questions, I can narrow down the type of look I'm going for.  Take today's #ootd... As you know, I still work a 9-5 therefore, I can only be 90% great.  If I gave the full 100%, they wouldn't be able to take me, ha-ha!  Since the weather was going to be really nice today, I wanted to go for a simple and easy look.  I paired this multicolored sleeveless top with white skinnies because I wanted the top to be the focal point and the nude sandal to sorta elevate the look.

OMG!!!! Capital America was the everything I knew it would be.  I watched it in 3D, but I'm sure I could have saved some coins watching it the old fashion way.  If you haven't see it, Go see it.  I really enjoyed my time off, celebrating my birthday and Mother's day.  So you can imagine coming back today is real hard.  I'm just counting down the days until I no longer have to clock in and out of "the mans" time clock.  What I took pleasure in the most about my time off was

Staying up as late as possible doing random randomness.  Such as aimlessly surfing the web, watching t.v, and catching up on old emails.  But for the most part, I didn't do much of anything.  Oh! before I forget, Happy (belated) Mother's Day to all you wonderful super shero mothers out there.  I hope you really enjoyed your day.

So today's look is really simple.  This look was inspired by my shoes.  I was looking for another pair of shoes when I came up on these and I was like, heyy I forgot about these.  Have you ever based your look on what shoes?  I do it all the time.  My shoes sometimes determine what I'll wear.  Often times you can take the colors in your shoes to help you pull a look together.  What's your inspiration when putting together a look?  Drop a line below and let me know, I might try your way.

Hey y'all!  Hope your day is off to a productive start.  I plan on making the most of this Thursday.  And this weather in the "A" is wonderful.  Not to hot, just the right amount of breeze.  This is the type of weather for short shorts and skirts.  Can I tell you something?

This is

Your

time!  You are where you are for a reason!  Now make the  most of it!!

Would you believe me if I told you that I hated the color pink?  Growing up I was sooo anti pink.  It was such a girly color and I was far from girly.  Give me a pair of baggy jeans and an over-sized shirt and I was good.  Funny thing now, is that I'm starting to like this ol' girly color.

When it comes to my wardrobe and my personal style preference, I like to mix things up.  I'm not sure if I even have a signature look.  I pretty much wear what I want.  Have you been envisioning yourself in looks that you feel aren't you?  What's keeping you from at least trying it out?  Even as a stylist, I used to have moments of body envy.  I see what looks good on other people and I'm like, I would never look that good in something like that.  But I wouldn't know if I don't try it on?  As a young child my mother use to tell me, "Try it, You might like it."  If you're toying with the idea of a new look; Play On, by friend, play on!

Drop a line below or email me (

) your style questions or concerns.  I'd love to hear from you.
