Street Style: The Suit Trend

melodiestewart.com, Top Atlanta blogger, Street style, Suit Trend

I’d just like to send out a big thanks to the person who donated this houndstooth plaid skirt suit to Goodwill. You’re the real MVP, whomever you are.

Guys, the number one item on my thrift wish list is a pant suit. I’ve been desiring a pant suit for the longest time, but coming up on this vintage green suit is the next best thing. This skirt suit is giving me “Clueless” vibes. And after more than 20 years since the movie dropped, this fashion moment is still poppin.

What’s cool about this blazer set is that I can wear it so many different ways. In today post I'm wearing it with a screen-tee and two-tone booties. However, switching out the blazer or the skirt allows me to create different looks allowing me to get the biggest bang for my buckets.

What are your thoughts on the suit trend? I'm not giving up on finding the perfect pant suit, yet this skirt suit now has a special place in my heart.

An Exciting Spin On A Black And White Outfit

melodiestewart.com, black and white street style, Top Atlanta blogger

There is nothing more stylish than a black and white outfit, I can’t say this enough. These two colors together pack a mighty punch and can be bold and simple at the same time. And is hands down the easiest color combo to wear - ever! Each year Pantone declares the color of the year and while I love wearing colors, black and white will always be my two colors of the year.

My obsession with this monochrome color combo will probably never end. Which is why I’m always looking for ways to keep my black and white looks from being bland and boring. Like I said, black and white paired together is super easy and the different ways to style these two colors are endless.

Although I’ve worn this pleated skirt before, this time around I dialed it up a notch by adding a little texture. This textured tri-colored pleated skirt is dope by itself, but since I can be extra from time-to-time I opted to go for a black and white polka dot shirt instead of plain black or white. I played with the idea of wearing a polka dot blazer, but went with a solid black blazer instead.

To complete the look, I wore a pair of foiled silver metallic loafers and black dotted tights. My accessories included a little box handbag along with a pair of red thin retro cat-eye sunglasses on trend right now (btw, when they first hit the scene I hated them and said I’d never buy a pair. Moral of the story, never say never!)

As always, I hope this look inspires you to step out of the box and try new ways to style your black and white clothes. Even though you might not have these exact items in your closet, you can still find interesting ways to create stylish black and white looks.

My Epic Outfit Fail

Mustard Sweater, Plaid skirt, Atlanta Stylist

Outfit fails can happen to anyone! Nobody gets dressed with the intention of looking a hot mess, but hey it happens. I can’t tell you how many times Kaylin (my photographer) has sent back my pics from a shoot and at least one look was all wrong. I’ve had moments where my mom gut was hating on me or my pants or skirt was twisted or the look wasn’t as cute in reality as it was in my head.

I’m sure we can all attest that things don’t always turn out the way we want. This look is evidence of that. Here I am thinking I’m cute or whatever only to realize that my sweater is bulging through my skirt.  I was going for an effortlessly chic look by opting for half-tucking my sweater.  Clearing I failed!  Typically, a button-down blouse works better for the half-tuck look.  For a thick sweater like the one I’m wearing I should have only tucked in just a few inches of the material either in the front or on the side.

Once I got the pics back and saw the error of my ways, I cringed.  How could I have done such a dis-service to this super cute look?  I thought about re-shooting the look but reconsidered because life happens, right.  I guess I should be grateful, it could have been a situation where my skirt was stuffed in my underwear.

Have you ever encountered an outfit fail situation?  What was it and how did you handle it?

Are You A Fan Of Wearing Shorts In The Fall?

Melodie Stewart, Top Atlanta Blogger, Fall Shorts Street Style

Summer is over and by now most people have already transitioned their wardrobes to match the current season.  However, there might be a handful of die hard style lover’s out here in these fashion streets making the most of their entire wardrobe.  While it might seem crazy to the average person, wearing shorts in cold weather is fire (get it – fire, man I’m lame).

A few weeks ago I wore this look to a fashion show (HERE) and I polled the question on my instastories if anybody wanted to see this look on the blog and I received a resounding -Yes! So here it is guys.  Even though I originally wore this look when it was actually warm outside, don’t be surprised if you see these shorts in the near future.

There are several ways to get away with wearing shorts in the cold months.  Pairing shorts with blazers, chunky sweaters, a fun pair of tights and over-the-knee boots or heels are easy ways to keep you warm and you could end up looking like a walking fashion statement.

Denim shorts are probably the easiest to style because you probably already have a pair or two already in your closet.  However, you should also consider shorts with heavier fabrics such as wool, leather, tweed, corduroy or brocade.

As always my goal is to inspire you to dress outside the box and to help you get over dreading getting dressed.  Before I go, check out this ‘shorts in fall’ look I did last year.  I wouldn’t suggest you wear it if I hadn’t done it myself -  see HERE.

Ankle Boots In The Summer... Is It Still Cool?

boots in the summertime, atlanta personal stylist, top atlanta blogger

I can’t count how many times I’ve advised my personal stylist clients to take a risk, step outside of the box, shake things up a bit (a bunch).  With today’s look, I’m taking my own advice - hence the booties in this Hotlanta weather.  Honestly, I never understood the whole boots in summer trend (or the sandals in winter).  Yet here I am.

One of my go-to methods for putting a look together is to start with my shoes first, then build the look from there.  Scanning over my shoe collection I kept coming back to this floral print ankle bootie.  All the while I’m telling myself boots aren’t meant to be worn in hot weather.  But wouldn’t you know it, my mind had already started putting together an outfit.

Instantly I remembered this canary yellow ruffle skirt (also worn HERE) that I picked up a while ago at Ecologie Vintage Shop (if you’re into vintage, you need to check them out).  With all the colors in this bootie, it was exciting coming up with different ways to style the rest of the look.  After several options, I ended up going with this blue polka dot button up top and fuchsia pink blazer.  This could even be a workwear ensemble - #outfitinspo.

Here’s the kicker guy’s… I’m not even thrilled with this look.  I mean it works, but it’s the booties in the summer that keeps blowing my mind.  What are your thoughts on wearing boot/booties in the summer time? Let me know in the comments below.

I'm Wearing My Feelings

Atlanta top blogger, Atlanta style blogger, Atlanta Personal stylist

It almost never fails that when Thursday hits, I have a moment of - "Is today Thursday or Friday"?  I mean I literally have to look at a calendar to confirm what day it is.  Does this ever happen to you?  Sometimes I wonder if the reason why I'm having these semi lapses in time is because I'm not happy about having to wake up early in the morning, travel 40-45 minutes (one way) to a job that doesn't excite me or challenge my creativity.

Atlanta top blogger, Atlanta style blogger, Atlanta Personal stylist

My career goals were simple.  I'd go to college, get my BS in nursing, work as a trauma nurse for 10-12 years, quit and then work for myself as a fashion stylist.  But we all know that even the best laid plans...

Today's outfit sorta describes how I've been feeling lately.  All mixed up.  Although the first part of my career goals didn't pan out, I still have my sights set on being a successful entrepreneur.  For the last few years I've envisioned myself getting up for work only to call my manager and telling her 'I Quit'.  Today was one of those days.

Honestly I think the reason I haven't done it is because I'm scared.  Whew!  I said it.  I think this is the first time I've actually embraced (outside of my head) that I'm scared.  I'm afraid of the unknown.  What if no one hires me?  What if a client hires me and I can't get the job done?  What if I don't make enough money to support my family?  What if!  What if!  What if!!!!!  Somebody said, the What if's and the Should have's will eat your brain.

Maybe that why I haven't been as inspired lately.  I mean the struggle has been fo'real fo'real.  Just writing this post took a lot out of me.  Yet!  I won't be defeated.  I won't allow discouragement to beat the crap out of me.  Instead of letting fear get the best of me, I'm taken the advise I give my son when he's scared; just because you're afraid doesn't mean I let fear take over me.

Fear aside, let me tell you how I fight these feelings.  My weapon of choice is my tongue.  Do you understand how powerful the tongue is?  It's more powerful than any two-edged sword.  Life (and death) lies in the power of what we speak.  That's why I make sure what I speak matches my goals.  Even at my lowest, I refuse to speak against my future.  Y'all I was about to start preaching, ha! ha! ha!.

Anywho, I hope this post will uplift you in some way and I pray that you find the strength to go back, grab those dreams you though died and speak life to them. It's not to late.

Polka Dots + Windowpane Print

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Atlanta style blogger, Style Influencer, Polka dots and stripes, mixed prints

Happy Monday style lovers!  How goes it?  All is well with me.  So technically it's still winter time, yet the weather today is suppose to be in the mid 70's.  This is perfect weather for today's outfit.  I love this look for two reasons, 1 - it's black and white and 2 - it's mixed prints.  This is such a fun approach to corporate America work wear.  Because the two prints together are bold, I decided not to add a printed pump, but went with this edgy shark tooth sole patent pump instead.  This round tassel trim crossbody complimented this look perfectly.  Not only did I wear this to work, I'd also wear this to brunch and even church.  Would you wear this?  If so, where?

Polka Dots + Stripes / Holiday Lookbook - Style 5

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Atlanta style blogger, Atlanta wardrobe stylist

Happy Friday style lovers, we made it!  But today is also shopping day and by shopping day, I mean this is my first and last day gift shopping.  This year, Christmas snuck up on me, since I became a first time homeowner less than two months ago.

If you're a veteran supporter or a newbie, you already know that black and white is my absolute fave color combo.  It's a timeless trend and is overwhelmingly cute when organized into logical stripes, grids or circles.  I was on a Thrifting Atlanta bus tour when I scored this black and white dotted midiskirt, the top was picked up separately, but doesn't it match perfectly?  And just because I'm extra I went with stripped pumps and this mixed print Aldo clutch.

Vintage Colorblock Top + Stripped Skirt / Holiday Lookbook - Style 4

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Atlanta style blogger, Atlanta wardrobe stylist

Man, can you believe it?  Christmas is almost here and I'm sure the party invites are still coming in.  And with that, the number one question will always be - What the heck am I going to wear?  Putting a look together can be stressful, especially if you feel a fancy frock is needed.  Guys calm down, breath!  You're living in a world where fashion is whatever you make it.  Since I'm not into fancy schmancy, I tend to go for over the top styles.  This mix of colors and prints during a festive holiday completely works for me.  I would soo wear this look to a holiday soiree.  Pass over the LBD or body con dress with boots or sandals and try a more vibrant look instead.

Moto Jacket + Summer Dress

Melodie Stewart, The Style Klazit, Atlanta style blogger

It's HUMP dayyyy!! Happy Wednesday style lovers.  Can I just say that my hair is E-VER-Y-THANG!!!!  I'd been toying with the idea of doing something different with my hair and finally decided on this tapered cut.

Adding pieces to your wardrobe that can be worn multiple ways is key to maximizing your outfit options.

It's finally "cold" in Atlanta, but I wasn't ready to let my summer wear go.  So I layered this red dotted dress with a white polka dot button-down shirt for a little mixed print action and this Moto jacket from H&M I bought two years ago.  In lieu of tights I wore long socks and booties.  Winterizing your summer wardrobe is definitely a good way to make the most of what you have.  You can do so much more with your summer clothes in the winter.

Here are a few suggestions:

  • Cover your summer dress with a cute sweatshirt

  • Add a turtleneck or button-down shirt under a sleeveless dress

  • Booties with tights and a blazer over a summery summer dress

  • Thick tights under a pair of cutoffs

  • Maxi skirt/dress paired with a hint of fur

  • Layer! Layer! Layer!

White T & Distressed Denim

Atlanta stylist, Atlanta blogger, Fashion blogger, Atlanta style, Street style, Black bloggers, Brown bloggers, Atlanta fashion, Distressed denim, white T, mirrored glassed, natural hair, 4c hair style, thrifted fashion, mixed print shoes, yellow handbag, black girls killing it

It's Monday!  GOD is going to do some

amazing

things this week; so get ready!!!  Today I decided not to look down on this day.  Everyday is a day full of possibilities and what better day to start than on the least popular day of the week.  So Carpe Diem the *&%$ out of this week and watch God work.

Today's look is sorta plain.  That's the beauty in wearing a white T and denim, you don't have to be runway ready.  It allows you to be casually cute and comfortable at once.  This style combo is perfect for those days when you just don't care (like what my shirt says.)  It's a running late type of look and all you have to do is add a statement necklace or a funky shoe and maybe a little lip color and you're good to go.  Short, sweet and to the point - like today's post.

As always, email me (

OMG! Finally able to chit chat with you guys for a bit.  I have been really busy.  You know you have to be real careful about what you say because you can change your world just by speaking into it.  Months ago I said that some great things were about to happen and sure enough awesomely great things are happening.  I can't wait to spill the beans when the time is right.  For now, let's talk about

today's #ootd.  The denim top, the crop top and the distressed jeans were all thrifted.  I actually got the top from the men's section.  And tell me why does my clutch cost more than my outfit, crazy right.  Even more crazy is that I was tripping out during the photo shoot because I felt like to much of my mini muffin top was showing.  Despite being petite I still have body insecurities; Yet I'm learning daily to adore my body and love all of it's "flaws."  Take-aways from today's post is to throw caution to the wind and be like Nike - Just Do It!
