Grind Pretty Werkshop || Event Recap

Grind Pretty, MimiJ, Atlanta Influencer

This weekend I had the pleasure of covering Atlanta MUA Mimi J Grind Pretty Workshop.  OMGeee, it was one of the most awe-inspiring events I've been to in a while.  I say inspiring because the panel of female bosses was off the chain (do people still say that?).  And let's give a huge s/o to Motions Hair for being the title sponsor this event and providing some lovely products that I'm definitely using next wash day.

The panel consisted of Africa Miranda, who's segment I really enjoyed.  She gave some really key pointers on how to step up my social media game and told of varies ways to promote your produce/service without doing the most.  Nicole Melton, the beauty behind Melton Digital, was equally as good.  Her presentation, helped me come up with some really great ideas for my brand.  It was informative and gave me a better perspective on digital media.  Terrell Dinkins, a financial adviser and author, talked about the importance of the business side of running a successful brand.  A good piece of advice that Terrell said was to create a plan 'B', just in case your first plan doesn't work out.  Chanel Martin got down on showing us how to tell our brand story.  Creating content for youtube was always on  my to-do list and thanks to youtuber Renelyn Thomas of makeupbyrenen, I now know what I need to do to get my YouTube channel popping.  Look out YouTube land, I'm coming!!!  Marketing Exec. Tracey Jennings.  said something that I never thought about and that is; Anytime you work with a brand, the end goal should be how can I get residual income from this partnership?  Just a little food for thought.  Yet the one piece of advice that I heard over and over was to make sure that I make myself attractive to brands.  Tahira Joy of The Cut Life made this very clear.  But my take away from Tahira is to always drive people to your site.

Call me a goal digger because this group of lady's dropped some rich gems yesterday.  Lastly, bigups to Mimi for allowing me to cover this event.  Be sure to follow Grind Pretty  on IG for deets on the next workshop.

Thanks for stopping by!!!

Naturally Pretty - The Art of Curl || Event Recap

There's one thing about going natural that I hate....  And that's that I didn't do it sooner.  I decided in March 2012 that I wanted to go all natural.  October of that same year I did the BC.  I'll admit, I had no idea what to do with my new texture.  I hadn't done any research on how to manage my hair or even what products to use.  Moreover, hubs HATED it :-(

Last Thursday I attended the 6th Annual Naturally Pretty Event, hosted by Atlanta MUA Mimi J and Dr. Mae a.ka. Natural Chica where this years theme was The Art of Curl.  Attendees had the opportunity to silently participate in the auctioning of three pieces of art from - CP The Artist, Andrea Pippins and Dana Bly of Pardon My Fro.  One thing I've really enjoyed about the NP events is seeing and meeting so many naturally beautiful women embracing their true self.  Although there are several natural hair events in Atlanta each year; Naturally Pretty is by far only one I look forward to attending each.  Check out my recap video below.

Event Recap: Curl Boss - Naturally Pretty

My natural hair journey has been interesting to say the least.  March 2012 was the last time I permed my hair and October 2012 I did the BC!  I was so excited and a little lost because I had no idea what I was going to do with a twa.  Not to mention my husband hated my natural hair; he called it "nappy."  It bothered me, but I knew that after I got the hang of it he would love.  AND I was right!!

During my natural hair journey, I've attended many hair events.  My favorite is the Naturally Pretty hair event hosted by beauty expert and MUA Mia “

MiMi J

” and Dr. Maeling "Mae" aka

Natural Chica

.  Volunteering in 2012 and 2013 and attending this year's event, WOW is all I can say.  The highlight for me was being in the presence of so many beautiful black women.  Secondly were the special guest panelist - Jasmine Lawrence of

Eden BodyWorks

, Janell Stephens of

Camille Rose Naturals

, Pamela Jenkins of

Koils by Nature

, Lois Hines of

Tropic Isle Living

and Chanel Martin & Candace Mitchell of
