How To Wear A Dress As A Top

Atlanta personal stylist, Top Atlanta blogger, Atlanta Street style, Atlanta fashion

Wearing sneakers is my thing now. Not that I consider myself a sneakerhead, but the last few pair of shoes I’ve bought have been sneakers (or flats). Gone are the days when sneakers are worn with a pair of jeans or sweats. Need a little inspo for ways to wear sneakers check out these style posts >>> HERE, HERE and HERE. Now let’s get into this look.

There are several clever ways to maximize your wardrobe, which can be challenging and fun at the same time. To stretch my closet to the max, I look for ways to re-purpose items I already have.

Have you ever considered wearing a dress as a top? Turning a dress into a top is super easy. For this look I paired this green accordion skirt over this animal print “dress”. Dress is in parenthesis because this “top” is not really a dress. It’s a robe from the lingerie section at Goodwill.

Now I challenge you to look into your closet and see how you can recreate this look.

If you follow me (which you should be) on Instagram or Facebook, I’ll be sharing a video on how I created this look tomorrow.

Cargo Jacket + Fringed Bootie

The Style Klazit, Melodie Stewart, Atlanta Style blogger, Atlanta Stylist, Tulle skirt, Fall fashion, Cargo jacket

Whoa!! The wind almost caught me slipping.  But I was quicker than that... Ha!  So in keeping with Tuesdays post (here) about transitioning summer pieces to fall, this look is another example of how to pull it off.  I could have easily paired this tulle skirt with a chambray top or a blazer and some cute dainty pumps, but I decided to dial down the girl power and opted for this olive cargo jacket and taupe booties from JustFab.  It still speaks femininity but with a slight edge.

5 Ways To Wear White After Labor Day

If you haven't already, check out my white after Labor day look here.  I thought that since I was brave enough to wear white; it would be helpful to offer you some style tips on wearing your whites as well...

- For starters if you're too scared to pull off white-white, try off-white, winter white, cream or ivory.

- If you do decide to wear white, be sure to chose a fall/winter fabric. i.e. leather, wool, fur, cashmere, suede

- You can pair your look with fall/winter accessories.  i.e. a wool fedora or a scarf, gold or silver statement pieces...

- White jeans can be worn year round.  They can be teamed up with a moto jacket, a blazer, a sweater or a turtle neck.  A nice boot or bootie, maybe even a pointed toe flat, would be an excellent finish to your look.

- A leather bottom (pant, skirt, shorts, etc...) with a white top - be it blazer, sweater, shirt would be really dope.

The goal is to keep the look clean and stylish.  Get creative and to have fun.  Make sure to stick with the best shade of white that compliment's your skin tone.  Always dress according to your body type not your size.  When you look good, you feel good!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Hi Stylenista's!

It's a new year and I'm super excited about all the possibilities this year will offer.

Would you believe me if I said, I'm only wearing one thrifted piece?  OMG, stop the presses!  Yes, it's true.  Sometime last year I stumbled upon this website named Sheinside.  They have really great pieces with the prices to match.  Although I was a little skeptical about ordering from them (because they ship direct from China) I did anyway.  It took almost a month before my items arrived, but when they did I was grateful.

Masculine Chic

Hello Stylenista's,

It's Christmas eve and I haven't done any shopping.  Why? You Ask!  My husband did it all because he says that I'm a horrible gift giver.  (shrugs shoulders and slightly tilts head)  Any-who, I wish you a very safe holiday season.

You may not know, but I love the masculine-feminine look.  I have two people that really embody this style - Esther Quek and Janelle Monae.  Both of these lady's have really owned the menswear for women style.  What's really cool about JM is that she manages to pull off this look with only two colors.  Esther on the other hand is a beast hands down.  I can't wait to meet my personal designer.  We have some work to do.  Now the one up that I have on Esther and Janelle is that I achieved my look with thrifted pieces.  Can you guess which piece I paid the most for?

Simple and Cute

Hi Stylenista's,

The weather in Georgia is fickle.  It seems like we experience all four seasons in a week.  This day was kinda chilly so I grabbed one of my favorite scarfs.

My cousin introduced me to thrifting years ago.  I wasn't entirely turned off about it, I still didn't want anyone to know that I shopped at thrift stores.  Although I didn't grow up lacking, I wasn't the girl that got to wear all the latest brand name.  Once I graduated from high school and started working I moved away from thrift shopping.  I had taken the blue pill (reference from the movie Matrix).  I got caught up.  But life has it's way of bringing one back to reality.  Reality was... I could still "look fly on a dime".

Fall Colored

Hey Stylenista's

I'm really gettin' into this fall weather.  Although I still have some summer pieces I would like to wear, I'm really excited about my fall wardrobe.

Some people are of the mindset that fall and winter means dark and neutral colors.  I tend to wear fun colors year round.  Although I try to stay in the know of all the trends each year, I'm more comfortable creating my own trend #createyourownlook.

Check out my entire thrifted look (except the sock & shoes)

Hello Fall!

Hey Stylenista's

It's just a few days since the official start of fall and the weather is gorgeous.  My creative juices are over flowing, just wait and see...

While perusing the pants aisle at the thrift store, of course; I came across the pants.  I really liked the print and the color of the pants and I thought they would look cute on me, so I picked them up.  I made my way to the tops aisle and guess what I saw - the top.  Really! They tried me, but not this time.  I was on my thrifting game.  I'm going to see how many ways I can style both pieces.  Stay Tuned.

{Oh! A lot of times I have my son with me when I snapping away and he wants to get him a few shots in as well, so I let him have a least 1-2 shots.  Check out his cool after school look}.

*Thrifting Tip:  Be on the look out for separated sets.  Some thrift stores will try to sale them as separate pieces in order to get more money.  I got caught like this before and learned my lesson.*

Passion For Fashion

Hi there Stylenista's

Happy Monday!  Today is the first day of fall and I can't wait to see the different looks this season will bring.  I, myself, am looking forward to styling a few pieces that I've thrifted over the spring/summer months.

Speaking of styling, I was asked to assist in styling for a fashion show for a women's conference luncheon.  Now, I've styled for church fashion shows before, however, this show required a pinch of finesse.  All in all I had fun.

Check out pics of my look and a few of the styles I created...

The Office...

Hi There Stylenista's

It's officially fall and the weather in Atlanta is uugghhh!  I remember when I took these pics, it was hot.  I had to find a nice shady area so that I wouldn't have sweat dripping from my face. As always, my look is thrifted.  Creating different looks for penny's on a dollar is sooo rewarding.
