My Outfit For The Last Day Of Summer 2018

Melodie Stewart, Atlanta Personal Stylist, Top Atlanta Blogger

It’s finally here, the last day of summer and with these 90 degree temps you can still bet on seeing lots of butt cheeks, thighs, midriffs and cleavage. For me, however, it means pulling out a few of my light weight fall pieces (that have been hanging in the closet waiting for their big debut) to transition in with my summer wardrobe.

In the mean time here’s my last official summer look. Going forward be prepare to see how I work a few summer pieces in with my fall wear. Hint, there will be lots of blazer looks (it’s kinda my thing.)

Take these cut up jeans turned shorts for instance, with the right light weight sweater or blazer and a dope pair of booties…. girlllll (or guy) that’s the making of a cute causal date night or girl night out outfit. The lace duster I bought on a whelm and kinda regretted it later because I wasn’t in love with it and what I paid for it, well lets just say I could’ve waited until some old lady donated a similar one to Goodwill.

On another note, my weekend should be pretty eventful. All I have to do is find my last look for the Mr. and I’s photo/video shoot happening this Sunday (it’s in preparation for our 10 anniversary vow renewal in January.) Because I have way more clothing options then he does, I decided to see what he would put together before I decided what I would wear. I wanted to make sure our looks coordinated (b/c I’m not into that matchy matchy thing - lame right?) Once he tried on what he wanted to wear, I realized I didn’t have anything and that my friends calls for…… A Shopping Trip!!!

I’ll probably take you along so be sure to follow me on the gram >>> @themelodiestewart for all the buziness, lol.

Whelp, that’s all folks. If you want drop a line in the comments about whateve’s you can or not. Either way have a fun and stylish weekend, xoxo!

TP² Menswear Fashion Show || Recap

Melodie Stewart, Atlanta Style Blogger, TP Squared Menswear Fashion Show

Discover the new Menswear Fashion Collection of TP² Men’s Fall/Winter 2019 fashion show sponsored by Christopher Metzler, CEO of Mannish W

This past Saturday I had the pleasure of attending the “Press Play” runway show hosted by menswear clothing designers Tim Parks and Toney Powell at the Ambient Plus Studios in Atlanta.  The show displayed styles and fashion pieces that brought to the stage a unique mixture of colors and textures that are not only fashion forward but would be perfect for today’s modern man who’s looking to serve a bold look at their next board meeting or for a photo opt on the red carpet.

During the fashion show, the duo showcased pieces from their Spring/Summer swimwear collection, mens fashionable underwear and introduced us to their new Fall/Winter line.  Toney and Tim are not novices to the fashion scene.  Their pieces continue to grace the runway of high-end stores such as Bloomingdale’s and Neiman Marcus.  In fact, I’m proud to say that I was given the opportunity to style the women’s collection at their first fashion show in 2015.

The presentation also featured the collections of womenswear Fashion Designer Isaac Spry and Hat Designer Otis Damon.

Check out some pics from the event and be sure to follow TP² on Instagram via tp2atlanta.

I'm Still A Fan Of The Athleisure Trend And You Should Be Too!

Melodie Stewart Personal Stylist, Athleisure Trend 2018, Top Atlanta blogger

My style is ever evolving.  Like what I didn't like a year ago, all of a sudden I now have two of.  Yet the one style that has followed me from my younger years to now is my fondness for the sporty look.

Athletic wear seems to be a staple in almost everyone's closet now-a-days.  Think about it, how many women (and men) do you encounter each day wearing a pair of leggings, a sports bra or some form of work out gear?  As I right this post I'm giggling just a little because I'm thinking about what my husband says whenever he sees a women wearing workout clothes.  "I bet half of the people wearing gym clothes aren't even working out, they're only wearing it for fashion".  In my case he's right.  These Adidas joggers have never seen the inside of a gym.

When I say you need to become a fan of Athleisure, you really should.  Dressing up a pair of joggers or opting for sneakers instead of heels (like I did in this look) is not only cute it's comfortable and easy to style.  For this look I traded the usual t-shirt for this red stripped button down and I choose these black and white block heeled sandals in place of sneakers.  I completed the look with my fave clutch and a long tasseled necklace.

This trend doesn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon, besides it's super easy to pull off.  Aside from the leggings and sneakers, try adding other sporty elements like a sports bra, a sweat shirt or pants.  Bascially Athleisure is a mix of casual everyday were and gym wear that works well when you're traveling, date night, girl night out or just because you want to.

What are your thought of this trend?  Have you worn it before?  If not, you should definitely try it.

An Office Friendly Outfit Inspo

Melodie Stewart, Atlanta Personal Stylist, Office Outfit Inspiration

With the three day weekend behind us, now it's back to standing in front of your closet trying to figure out what the heck should you to wear to work.

Dressing for the office can be a bit tricky and over whelming.  Between figuring out how to dress for the hellish temps outside and the below freezing temps in the office, all while making sure you're not called into HR is a feat in itself.  Today I'm sharing this simple yet cute dress and blazer look for work wear inspiration.

I'd first like to say that if you don't have a blazer in your closet, we can't be friends!  Blazers are awesome and they make me feel like a star... Of all the different types of clothing, blazers are my all time favorite garment.  Paring your look with a blazer can instantly take your look from meh to amazing.

Today I'm sharing how I styled this floral blazer and yellow dress for a super easy and professional office appropriate outfit. No matter if you're position is entry level or director this look works well in both a business casual or business professional setting.

Not only do I love the vibrant color of the dress, it has a sorta retro with a hint of sophistication vibe going on.  And the length is perfect for the office.  The dress alone is so cute, however, I wanted this look to make a statement.  So I paired it with this dark blue floral print blazer.

Keep in mind this look is just for inspiration so I challenge you to reach into your closet and look for any color dress and blazer option you have.  You can even flip it, meaning the dress can be the statement piece and the blazer a solid color.  Now if you want to get really creative, try mixing two different prints (just make sure they compliment each other).

Although I didn't add a lot of accessories with this look, a cute necklace or a belt cinched at the waist would have been okay.  The goal for this look was for the blazer to be the statement piece.  Who knows next time I'll go over board with the accessories.

Swapping Out My Skinny Jeans For Baggy Jeans

Melodie Stewart, Oversized Jeans Street style, Atlanta blogger

Growing up I wasn't allowed to wear pants (one day I’ll share why) which meant anytime I snuck and wore them they weren't mine and they were often too big.  When the time came where I could openly wear pants, my go-to size was still the baggy jeans.  There were a few reasons why, but the main reason was that I was pint-sized, and I didn’t want people to see just how tiny I was.

But that all changed once I got to college.  All of a sudden, I wanted to change how I dressed.  So, to shake things up a bit, I threw out all my too big jeans and jumped on the skinny jeans bandwagon which I’ve been riding that out ever since.

In recent months, I’ve noticed that my personal style is slightly changing.  Which is a good thing.  I don’t ever want to get stuck in a style rut (btw, if you’re style is stuck, check out my style services to see how I can help free you from your wardrobe woes…. Not a shameless plug!)  Okay where was I…. Oh yea, even though I’ve been a long time fan of the skinny jean, I’m stepping out to explore other jean options.

Enter these oversized baggy distressed jeans (that I absolutely LOVE).  I nearly passed on them because they are almost toooo big.  Glad I went with my style mind instead of my rational mind.  With fall right around the bend, I’ve already have at least 5 more ways to wear them.

For this look I went for a mixture of feminine and masculine.  Borrowing from the boys I decided on this contrast stripped button-down and from the girls these heeled sandals and floral embellished box clutch.  It’s simple yet it still makes a statement.

Be on the look out guys, these jeans will probably be in heavy rotation this fall.  Don’t say I didn’t warn you…  What are your thoughts on baggy jeans?  Let’s talk in the comments.

This Bubble Hem Dress Is Spot On

Melodie Stewart, Atlanta Personal Stylist, Polka Dot Dress

I don't think I'll ever not be into polka dots.  I mean what's not to like about repeated round dots on fabric, especially in black and white?  The polka dot trend has been around for years and I highly doubt it's going anywhere anytime soon.

In my younger years I hated wearing dresses.  However lately I've been trying to add more of them into my wardrobe.  That's why when I saw this polka dotted dress, getting it was a no brainer.  The classic polka dot print and the style of this dress coupled with my favorite color combo equals amazingness (it's a word okay).

Now I know most people aren't here for the itty bitty kitty (a.k.a the kitten heel) but I really like them (as long as they are unique and cute).  And while I could have gone with at least two other pair of shoes, I ultimately chose these adorable little polka dot slingback kitten heels with its charming bow detail at the front.

This dress is super cute and it will definitely be in the rotation this fall.  As a matter of fact I've already styled it again (it'll be on the blog soon).  Just in case you're wanting to get on the polka dot bang wagon and need a little inspiration...  Check out this polka dot and windowpane print look, or this contrast polka dot look or how about this mixed print striped and polka dot outfit.

What are your thoughts on the polka dot trend?  Do you love it or hate it?  Let's talk about it in the comments.

This Ankara Color Block Skirt Hides My Mom-Gut Perfectly

 Ankara Street Style, Melodie Stewart

*This skirt was sponsored by SGTC by Détóké

I'm going to let you in on a little secret.... Styling this skirt almost took me out.  I can not tell you why I stressed so much trying to come up with how to wear this skirt.  And this is the second look, I didn't like the first look at all.  Maybe one day I'll share.

One thing I love about this skirt is the print and the colors.  It's such a fun skirt and I'm sure the next time I wear it I won't be so stressed about styling it.  But the best part about this skirt is that it hides my mommy tummy so well.  It means so much to not have to worry about sucking my gut in when I don't have to... #winning!

When you get a chance, you really need to check out all the different style options SGTC Clothing offers.

Stepping Out Of My Comfort Zone With This Ankara Wrap Shirt

Atlanta Personal Stylist, Top Atlanta Blogger, Ankara Print Street Style

*This top was sponsored by SGTC by Détóké

One trend that I really like, but rarely wear is the off the shoulder trend (OTS).  You might even shake your head at the craziest reason why... I feel all saggy when I don't have on a strapped bra.  I know, crazy right?  And before you ask, yes I own a good strapless bra, I just feel more secure with the straps.

Opting to wearing this Ankara wrap shirt off the shoulders was a stretch for me and slightly out of my comfort zone.  But before I get into why I decided to step out of my comfort zone, let's take a moment to reveal in how amazing this top is?  First of all Ankara (or African print) is gorgeous in and of itself.  The array of different colors, patterns and styles is just so beautiful.  I can't wait to wear this top again.

Now back to me stepping out of my comfort zone.  Wearing this top is a bit out of my style realm.  Which is why I was a little over whelmed when I took it out of it package.  The vibrant colors and print, along with these voluminous sleeves had me like woah!  I thought how the heck am I going to style this.  Once I tried it on and played with a few different style options (all while my husband cracked jokes) surprisingly I actually loved how it looked draped off the shoulder.

Initially I wanted to dress up this top with either a cute skirt or pants, but that's expected.  So I went with these distressed white jeans and Adidas sneakers.  My little neon yellow clutch was the perfect pop of color (not that this look needed a pop of color).  Adding the clutch was like the cherry on top.  Over all, I'm pleased with how this look came together.  Styling this top from IG acct, Style Goes To Church was fun and I can't wait to wear it again.

You should definitely check SGTC out on Instagram.  And you're in luck, they actually just released 13 new designs, but don't take too long the designs are limited.

A Simple Black Skirt With Pockets For The Win

atlanta personal stylist, top atlanta blogger, black bloggers

When you grow up wearing skirts all the time like I did, you sorta develop a love/ hate relationship for them.  Honestly I hated wearing skirts, mainly long skirts.  Or maybe it had something to do with the style of skirts my mom made me wear.  Either way, skirts were not my thing.  Ironically so, now-a-days I find myself swooning over all types of skirts, especially ones with pockets.  I guess it’s true that time brings change.

Can I be the only one who's ever been shopping and come across a skirt (or dress) that was just 'okay' until you notice it has pockets?  It's like as soon as you try the skirt on and slide your hands into the pockets you're instantly happy and everything with the world is right!!!  Pockets are just so magical and darn near irresistible.

It’s no secret that I’m slightly intimidated by crop tops.  Yet this embroidered floral top was hands down the perfect choice to pair with this skirt.  And let’s not even talk about these clear strappy heels.  The goal for this look was simplicity with a dab of ooh la la (the vintage handbag).  I'd definitely wear this look to Sunday brunch with the girls.

Avid Kläzit fans know I LOVE thrift shopping.  If not every weekend, every other weekend, I'm perusing the racks at somebody's thrift store.  And whenever I can't make it to a physical store, online shopping is my next go-to.  But wait, you can actually do both.  Thrift shop online, how cool is that?

I've partnered with Thredup, the world’s largest online consignment and thrift store, to bring you this awesomely chic look.  Navigating their site was a breeze which is why it took me no time at all to find what I was looking for.  Using the filters to narrow down the search field, I found this long black skirt, along with a few other pieces as well (those looks will be coming soon, stay tuned).

Camo Pants That Are Worth Repeating

Atlanta personal stylist, Top Atlanta blogger, Camo street style

Once upon a time there was a young lady (me) who would have never been caught wearing something twice, especially if the look was captured on the gram.  I mean, where day do dat at (in my slang voice, cause I'm cool like that)?  But then one day this young lady woke up and realized that that was the most craziest thing ever.  She understood that she was being uppity for no good reason and remembered she didn't have the closet of Rihanna.  After all what sense did it make to buy something I obviously liked only to wear it once?  Cray, right?

After I got over the "Repeat Outfit Offender" syndrome, I gained a better appreciation for my clothes and became more focused on making the most of my wardrobe.  While I very rarely repeat a look, I do wear items over and over.  I've said this before and I'll say it again for the people in the back.  When considering adding pieces to your wardrobe, before you buy it, envision at least 3-4 different ways to style that item with pieces you already have in your closet.  The goal is to maximize your wardrobes full potential, not to become a hoarder.  Maximizing your wardrobe means mixing and matching pieces that you already have to create different looks.

Take these camo pants for instance.  This look is my 8th (or 9th) time styling these fatigues and each time I've replaced one or two pieces from the previous look to create a whole other outfit. Here are two good examples of the rare occasions when I've worn AND been photographed in the same look; the difference between the two is for the first look, I wore floral print block heels and paired it with a mixed print clutch.  Yet for the second look, I opted for flatform shoes and accessorized with a leopard print belt.  You see that with only a few subtle changes, you can create different looks with pieces you already have.  So you know I have to ask, which look is your fave?

Just in case you're curious about the other ways I've styled these pants >>> Go HERE!!!  And last but not least, you can follow my style journey on Instagram -- @thestyleklazit.

Mommy Makeover Contest Winner || Recap

The style klazit, mommy makeover winner, atlanta personal stylist

Today I'm excited to introduce you to Carolyn Abuajah, the mom who won my Mother's Day Mommy Makeover Giveaway.  Prizes included a professional style session from The Style Kläzit, hair styling (worth up to a $100 service) by Colour Personal Hairstyling Service, an outfit (worth up to $200) from Back By Popular Demand, makeup session (worth up to $85) from The Glamatory Makeup store and a photoshoot (worth up to $75) by my awesome photographer KVisuals to capture the moment.  And someone heard about what I was doing and sponsored a massage session.

One of the nomination requirements included providing a reason why the nominee should win the contest.  Carolyn's reasoning touched my heart and was part of the main reason why she was selected to win the makeover.  Not only is she a single mother, she's a medical student.  How admirable is that?!

It wasn't until after meeting with Carolyn that she shared a little bit more about her journey.  During the style session I was asking her about her current wardrobe and that led to her telling me how she lost almost everything she had during Hurricane Maria. The hurricane destroyed her home, school and ultimately the entire country of Dominica.

Carolyn and her son didn't get evacuated until 4 days after the natural disaster hit, so you can only imagine the struggle she had to endure to maintain and survive. By the time she and her son got rescued, the only items she had were their passports, her laptop, cell phone and a few clothing items.

The school relocated to a boat docked off the shore of St. Kitts and with the option to either sit the semester out or finish it; she choose to finish out the semester (and live) on the boat.  She's currently working diligently to become a physician so that she can give back to the community.  Her son being her fuel, she's determined to accomplish her goal. Congratulations Carolyn!

*Due to the weather the day of the shoot, Carolyn decided on a hair unit instead of the style from Colour.

How Accessories Can Turn Your Blah Outfit Into A Bomb Outfit

Atlanta Personal stylist, Top Atlanta blogger, Atlanta street fashion

Accessories matter!  They can definitely help bring out your outfit and pull it all together.  Even the least stylish person can turn a simple look into a smashing look just by adding a cute statement necklace or some bangles.  Turning a boring look into a eye catching outfit is super easy.  Trust me, I do it all the time.

Whether you're a loyal reader or a newbie, if you go back over the last 50 post, you'll see that accessories are a huge part of my wardrobe.  For instance, today's look would have been okay with just this striped shirt and red track pants, however, I wanted to take this look up a few notches - which is wear the accessories come in.  My accessories of choice in today's look is a belt, a statement necklace, some arm candy and a clutch.

Inspired by the colors in my statement necklace (because black is too easy and predictable) I opted for a non-traditional color choice by going with a turquoise belt instead of black.  It's such an unexpected color combo, but it works right?  And I already said I like being extra, which is why I wore this neon yellow box clutch.

Did you know that, while necessary, shoes can definitely be considered an accessory?  A super cute shoe like these loafer mules with bow detail is also an outfit game changer.  Wearing the right shoes can make or break your look.  Accessorizing is an art, but you don't have to be an artist to know how to paint.  If you can master putting the right accessories together, you'll have no issues looking awesome in whatever you wear.

The next time you're out shopping don't forget to stop by the accessory section.  Here's a list of pieces you might consider picking up...

- A pair of earrings.  They can be longer, medium sized or studs / Solid colored or multicolored
- A bold or colorful statement necklace, long or short in length.  You can even layer 2 or 3 different necklaces (just make sure they compliment each other and your look)
- Bracelets can be layered as well.  Try mixing different colors, shapes and textures
- Add a belt, play with different colors and widths
- Add pops of color.  Whether it's a clutch or your shoes
- My fave.... A dope pair of frames

These are just a few tips on how to accessorize your look.  Are you into accessorizing your outfit?  I hope this look inspires you to step outside the box.
