Weekend of Fashion & Fun - Best Dressed / p.1

OMGeeee Stylenista's,

Okay, I'm tired like the end of the year teacher tired!!!  I haven't had a busy weekend like I had this weekend in a while.  My weekend consisted of a tea party, a fashion show and a trunk show.  The highlight of my weekend shenanigans was my outfits.  If I was in a contest for best dress - I would have won.  BTW, I did win "Best Dressed" at the tea party hosted by NeShunta of Style Is She.  To keep from over inundating you with all my pics from the weekend, I'm doing a three part mini-series for this post.

Sooo, let's talk about my FAB-U-LOUS dress for the tea party.  I started looking for a dress as soon as I saw the post for the tea.  Although I had 2 dresses that would have been great for the tea party, neither had that wow factor.  And the search continued... There was a dress on IG that I had been stalking for weeks; just hoping that the price would go down.  It did!  Once I received the dress I thought that my search was over - it wasn't.  So I took to IG again.  And see for yourself!

Destroyed Denim

Hello Stylenista's,

Last month I had a birthday - Yyyyeeeaaaa!!!  Although I'm a little picky and somewhat finicky it doesn't take a lot to make me happy.  I love my husband for all the effort he puts into making my day special.  Aside from what he gets me, I don't really expect anyone else to get me anything.  However, to my surprise my two thrift bff's (Tiffany @mrscuteasabutton and NeShanta @msstyleisshe) gifted me with some fabulous items.  One of my birthday gifts was this denim skirt and immediately I knew that I was going to destroy this skirt.  With little vision in mind and a giant pair of scissors I started cutting.  My husband was like you're just scissor happy; my reply was that it was going to be one of the best looking distressed skirts of all time.  After nearly loosing a finger and almost choking to death because of the bleach fumes - I  present to you............. Destroyed Denim!

Just Chill'n

Hi Stylenista's

I'm back!  Although it's only been like a week or two, it seems like a month or two.  I hope you all had a great 4 day weekend; I did.  My goal was to do nothing and to go no where... Well that didn't happen.  You see, I'm a thrift fiend so I ended up at the thrift store.  It was $.50 day and I found a few pieces that I'm excited to wear.

Okay so this look is simple, yet cute.  I had a meeting to attend and I wanted to be comfortable.  So instead of heels I opted for these mint green oxfords.

Here's Pinking At You!

Hi Stylenista's

It's Monday again and yet again, I had a fab weekend.  This weekend I hosted the Thrifting Atlanta bus tour.  First off, I love thrifting!  Every time I step foot into a thrift shop, I get anxious; almost like a kid in a candy shop.  Just the anticipation of what awesomeness awaits me.  As a firm believer of speaking things into existence, I'm floored when something from my shopping wishlist comes into my life.  I can't wait to show you the yellow midi skirt that I got while on the tour.

A few Sunday's ago, I was running late for church and my first look didn't come together as I had planned.  So plan "B" were these floral print shorts (because I didn't have iron them) and the short sleeved collared shirt.  Since I was going to church I thought I better put on a pair of heels.  I think "Madison" from ShoeDazzle was the perfect touch.

FaShun Pop-up Shop

How goes it !!!!

Let me first start off by saying that I'm soo excited about my future.  The harder I work on building my brand, the better I feel about what lies ahead.  Whew, I just needed to get that out!!!

About last night... I attended Stylist Shun Melson's FaShun Pop-up Shop at Negril Village Atlanta.  Aside from the the sweltering heat, the event was fun.  And although I don't know Shun personally, she was very approachable and friendly - You know some people when they "arrive" get really funky acting.  Outside of networking and meeting new people, I was also scouting out fab looks.  Posted at the end is a quick video of some of my fave looks from last night.  Speaking of looks, Get Into My Look!!!

All Mixed UP!

Hi Stylenista's,

There's a certain classicness (is that a word?) to black and white.  Subconsciously, I tend to lean more towards the black/white combo.  I like the versatility that this color combo has.  One of my favorite style enthusiast's, who I deem the queen of black and white, is Janelle Monae.  She can wear the heck out of an black and white outfit.

Following me you see I'm a huge fan of prints.  Outside of polka dot's, window pane print has become my fave.  As an avid thrifter, my primary goal was to find them for less than $5.00.  Well, that didn't happen.  While out and about with my boo, I walked into the store and there they were; front and center.  I felt like a kid on Christmas.  They were not the $5 that I was hoping for, BUT I got want I wanted.

Polka-dot button down - Thrifted - < $2.00
Window pane print pants - Old Navy - $35.00

Multi-Colorful

Hi Stylenista's

The weekend is over. Whew!  And what a weekend it was.  I haven't been thrifting in weeks, maybe a few months; however, that all changed this weekend.  I co-hosted the April Thrifting Atlanta monthly bus tour.  While on the tour I picked up a few pieces that I had on my thrift wishlist.  OMG!!!! I can't wait to show you guys the one piece that almost stop the earth from revolving.....

Speaking of bus tour, I scored this skirt from Ecologie Consignment and Vintage during last months bus tour.  Being the colorful individual that I am, it was a no brainer that this piece was coming home with me.  Not to mention, I almost had to fight Keren (twostylishkays) over it.  You have to watch out for her! Anywho...

Springtime Ready

Hi Stylenista's

The weather in the "A" is starting to warm up and I can't wait to break out a few pieces that I thrifted during the cold months.  I've even started working on my shoes collection for spring '15.

Notice anything different?  You guess it!  My hair is slightly different.  Since I've been natural, I've only had my hair straightened twice.  I love my hair in it's natural state, I just wish I would have big chopped sooner.  My hair goal is to have a fro as big as the moon (kidding) but I would like for it to grow more.

When I thriftshop, I never look for anything in particular.  My goal is to find something super cute, different and multi-functional.  I was having a rough day at work so I decided that I needed a little resale therapy.  So as I meandered through the aisles, I came up on this emerald green full skirt - buying it was a no brainer.  Although I'm frugal when it comes to shopping, I had to go retail to get this black jacket.  Isn't it everything?  I really really liked how this look came together.  Leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Work-wear On A Dime

Hello Stylenista's

I hope you're having a wonder day and staying warm.  This Atlanta weather is not the business.  Although I'm sure anyone up north would laugh in my face.  This frigid weather is exactly why I told my husband he needs to move us to Tampa, FL.  Anywho!

Well if you've been following me you can probably tell that my style is somewhat versatile.  It has to be since I still work an 8-5 (but not for long).  I would really describe my personal style as eclectic, retro and modern vintage.  This look is very simple to me, but it's still cute.  It ceases to amaze me what $3-$15 can transform into.  I love that I'm blessed with creativity.  Can't wait to see where it continues to take me.

Road Ready

Hi Stylenista's!

"I say, dress to please yourself.  Listen to your inner muse and take a chance.
Wear something that says 'Here I Am Today" - Iris Apfel

I totally agree with this quote.  Life is too short to be concerned with what others have to say about you.  Live life to the fullest.

For a little over 2 years now, I've been on a journey.  I set out for one purpose and along the way I've learned new things about myself that I never knew existed.  So far this has been a most interesting experience.  Now when on a journey you have got to have great footwear... And I knew the moment I laid eyes on these metal heeled boots, that they would call my closet home.  As usually everything else is #thrifted.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Hi Stylenista's!

It's a new year and I'm super excited about all the possibilities this year will offer.

Would you believe me if I said, I'm only wearing one thrifted piece?  OMG, stop the presses!  Yes, it's true.  Sometime last year I stumbled upon this website named Sheinside.  They have really great pieces with the prices to match.  Although I was a little skeptical about ordering from them (because they ship direct from China) I did anyway.  It took almost a month before my items arrived, but when they did I was grateful.

FEATURE Friday

FEATURE Friday with

When I think of vintage fashion with a twist, this thriftanista always comes to mind.  I've followed her on Instagram for a while now and she never disappoints.  Meet Vinty_Fresh.

Recently I had the privilege to talk with Brittany about her love for style and thrifting.  Check out our conversation.

*What does style mean to you?

I think style is how you wear your clothes.  Anybody can wear clothes, it's how we express our self (in most cases).  It's when you allow your own personality to make the difference and to make it your own.

*When did you first develop your own sense of style?

I don't think I really found my own style until I graduated from high school.  Even though I've been a thrifter from a very young age; I was always creative, mixing and matching different colors.  I do think that thrifting helped me to develop my style.

*Do you shop for particular labels/brands when thrifting?

No, I don't really look for anything in particular.  Whatever catches my eye is usually what I go for.  Since I inherited the gift of thrifting from my grandmother and mother, I've mastered thrift shopping.  I can usually spot out true vintage pieces.  My mom and I have a thing where we say we're putting things out into the universe and sure enough we'll find it.

*What was your worst thrifting experience?

I must say, I've never had a bad experience.  The most annoying this is if I have to stop because I either have to use the restroom and the store doesn't have a public restroom or if I'm really hunger.

*How did Vinty_Fresh come about?

Well... When I first got on Instagram I had a different IG name.  It wasn't until I started to get recognized when I felt that I needed to change it.  My little sister actually came up with the name.  Not only did I like the name, I thought it embodied who I am.

*Tell me about ReInvinty_Fresh?

ReInvinty_Fresh is the re-launch of my old online vintage store.  Over a year ago, I ran a very successful e-boutique (Vinty_Fresh Clothing).  I had to close it as it had become overwhelming with all that I had going on at that time.  I was very disappointed about having to close the store.  But! At the urging of family, friends and social media followers I decided to re-open the store.  I've only been open a week and I've already had 17 sales.

*What is your opinion about the recent thrifting trend?

I think it's cool that people are getting on board.  It wasn't until Macklemoore came out with Thrift Shop that I think thrifting became so popular.  As a veteran, I've been trying to tell people for years to at least try it.  I even like seeing the burst in resale businesses online.

*What would you do if thrift stores didn't exist?

That's kind of hard to think about.  I would find my way to try and find a vintage store.  Or I would open up my own thrift store.

*Do you follow trends?

I feel like I do, but I don't.  If I see something that I like, I'll try to recreate the look in my own way.  I do try to make sure that I carry trendy pieces in my store.  I wear what I feel.  Right now I'm really into furs.  I'm not into following trends, even if it's not a trend anymore, I'll still wear it.

*What's something that people would find interesting or hard to believe about you?

I'm really reserved.  I don't like being the center of attention nor do I like big crowds.  Growing up I was a "nerd" so I feel like that nerdy girl.  Although it may not look like it in my pictures, I am reserved.

Masculine Chic

Hello Stylenista's,

It's Christmas eve and I haven't done any shopping.  Why? You Ask!  My husband did it all because he says that I'm a horrible gift giver.  (shrugs shoulders and slightly tilts head)  Any-who, I wish you a very safe holiday season.

You may not know, but I love the masculine-feminine look.  I have two people that really embody this style - Esther Quek and Janelle Monae.  Both of these lady's have really owned the menswear for women style.  What's really cool about JM is that she manages to pull off this look with only two colors.  Esther on the other hand is a beast hands down.  I can't wait to meet my personal designer.  We have some work to do.  Now the one up that I have on Esther and Janelle is that I achieved my look with thrifted pieces.  Can you guess which piece I paid the most for?

 Hi there Stylenista's,

So this past weekend I did media for the Thrifting Atlanta Bus Tour.  The bus tour is a chauffeured bus ride to shop resale shops in the metro Atlanta area.  As a bus rider, you can enjoy exclusive discounts, light refreshments, giveaways and a bag lunch too.

An avid thrifter already knows what the thrifting uniform should consist of... A maxi dress or fitted top with leggings or a skirt to assist with trying on clothes just in case the dressing rooms are filled or if there aren't any dressing rooms.  Well I decided to spruce up my thrift uniform just a little. Take a look below and let me know what you think.

Simple and Cute

Hi Stylenista's,

The weather in Georgia is fickle.  It seems like we experience all four seasons in a week.  This day was kinda chilly so I grabbed one of my favorite scarfs.

My cousin introduced me to thrifting years ago.  I wasn't entirely turned off about it, I still didn't want anyone to know that I shopped at thrift stores.  Although I didn't grow up lacking, I wasn't the girl that got to wear all the latest brand name.  Once I graduated from high school and started working I moved away from thrift shopping.  I had taken the blue pill (reference from the movie Matrix).  I got caught up.  But life has it's way of bringing one back to reality.  Reality was... I could still "look fly on a dime".

A Family That Styles Together...

Hi Stylenista's,

Happy Holidays!  Are you getting into the holiday spirit?  I'm starting to get there.  I'm just looking forward to not having to wake up as early.  I also have a few upcoming events that I'm a little excited about.  Any reason for me to "dress up" I'm all for it.  I get really charged when I'm thinking about what I'd like to wear for an event.

January 2015 will mark 6 years of married for me.  When my husband and I first met, we weren't fond of each other's style.  I thought he dressed like an old (dare I say it) pimp and he thought I was over the top.  However, after a little (a lot) of persuading, he has stepped out of the box and now you can't hardly tell him anything.  What's funny is that whenever we have a function to attend, you'd think we were preparing for some red carpet event.  To top it all off, our 5 year old son has inherited his parents style gene.

Outfit Details
Black Sweater - Thrifted
Black Skinny Jeans - Forever21
Tall Boots - JustFab

P.S. My husband is partially thrifted.  His blazer and button down shirt is thrifted. BTW, he styled his self.  My son's attire is from K&G menswear

Something Like DOPE!

Hi Stylenista's

This year is coming to an end and what a year it has been.  I attended a vision board party in January and as I look back over the last 11 months I'm overjoyed at seeing some of the items that I put on my vision board come to life this year.  *Proverbs 29:18 - Without a vision, the people perish...  I'm so excited to see what year 2015 has to offer.

The look in this post was inspired by my diy beanie.  After seeing a similar version on a model at a fashion show I knew right away that I was going to give it a try.  I must admit that the finished product was very cute, however, I didn't account for the fact that I would have to wear it over all this hair.  After a few minor adjustments, it turned out rather cute.  Oh! One other thing.  I'm only wearing one thrifted item!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thrift Style Academy

Hi Stylenista's!

Class is in session!  Today's lesson is about creating your own look all while doing so on a budget.  If you've been following my blog, then you should know that you don't have to spend a lot in order to look trendy.  As for myself, I like to see how I can come up with my own trendy look.

Guess what?  The only item that that I'm wearing that is NOT thrifted are my socks and shoes? And two of the pieces are name brand, get into that! This look is a mixture of a little vintage, a splash of modern with a twinkle of retro.

Ready To Celebrate!

Hi Stylenista's!

It's been a few days since my last post and I feel like it's been months.  You see the way my life is set up, I'm not able to post as often as I'd like.  Not only is my son now playing basketball, it's also cold as ice outside.  What does the two have to do with each other? Not a thing!

N-E-Who! I mentioned in my last post that I would be celebrating my dad's 60th birthday this past Saturday.  So the outfit that I had planed on wearing almost didn't come together.  As I knew I would, I waited til the last minute to start working on my attire only to find out that I didn't have enough tulle.  My husband was leaving to run an errand so I asked him to pick me up a roll of tulle.  Would you believe that even after showing him a picture of what I needed, he still came home with the wrong thing - go figure.  Well being the creative being that I am, I worked it out anyhow.  The first look was styled for Thrifting Atlanta's Fashion Week Style Wars competition and the second look was for my dad's birthday dinner.  Which do you like better?

Oh, I almost forgot... My dad surprised my mom by using his birthday dinner to renew their wedding vows.  How awesome was that, major points for that.

Outfit Details
Black top - Park Ave Thrift Duluth - $2.50 (this came with a long skirt, but I'm thick....)
